Metformin good: Coupled with a low glycemic index diet, metformin will never lower blood glucose. You need to increase the metformin dose up to 2.5 g per day. The low blood sugar is being caused by hyperinsulinemia overshoot, and you need more metformin, not less. ...Read more

Glycemic index: Try finding a glycemic index table and eat foods that are 75 or less. This may be somewhat difficult in the beginning but will be very helpful over time. These foods will not elevate your Insulin levels as much and will help you lose weight in a reasonable fashion. Calorie control will also be helpful along with exercise. ...Read more

Will starting metformin increase my hair loss? I have PCOS and suffer from male pattern baldness and gradual thinning. I am desperate to find a solution for my hair, which was once very very thick, but also want to lose weight. (I'm 5'4 and 149)

Male pattern baldnes: Male pattern baldness in a female sounds really odd. I don't know how you got that diagnosis but it sounds to me like you should go see an endocrinologist and bring with you any test results of things that you already have done to you. You live in LA. Go to one of the University Medical Centers and get a good workup. ...Read more

Is it possible to lose weight if I have pcos and I'm taking Trinessa? do I need to add metformin to this? I feel exhausted, depressed, & have acne

Complex question: Treating PCOS with a contraceptive pill, can cause a slight reduction in ovarian cystic volume and some body weight loss. However, the depression, acne and feeling of exhaustion may indicate both PCOS and Depression. Ask your Trinessa GYN MD about the need or not for Metformin as well as have him/her do a screening for clinical depression as a anti-depressant Rx may be more appropriately indicated ...Read more

Seroquil can make yo: Seroquil can make you sleepy ; make it more difficult to lose weight. Perhaps you will do better with regular, vigorous exercise, especially outside. I have pcos, the doctors said i jave to be treated contraceptives(all my life) + metformin (3months) is this a good treatment protocol?

PCOS is Complex: The management of pcos is complex. Note that i did not say treatment but management. There are various presentations to this rather complex disease and depending on what the patient / doctors are shooting for, management can differ. Contraceptive pills help regulate the cycles and also improve hair growth. Metformin is helpful in improving Insulin sensitivity. Significant weight loss is helpful. ...Read more

I take 100mg Metformin daily night time (2tablets). Gyno said 150mg. Am I ruining the treatment by taking less? I feel like 3 tablets are a lot. PCOS

100mg =very low dose: 100mg of Metformin is a very small dose. Most women with PCOS are on much higher doses (1000mg to 2000mg). I don't think 100mg is going to help you that much. However, it is a good idea to start at a low dose and increase the dose over time to avoid intestinal side-effects. Best wishes! ...Read more

I'm 19 and I have PCOS. Currently I'm taking metformin and Harmoni -f. Is that a good treatment?

Yes.: Metformin may help with insulin resistance usually seen with PCOS. Harmoni-f is an oral contraceptive pill which will help regulate your periods. If you are trying to conceive then you may stop the Harmoni-f after 2 or 3 months and let your doctor give you ovulation inducing drugs such as Clomid (clomiphene). Ihave pcos 44"l m getting treatment of metformin ,oral contraceptive pill from 8 month how much time it will take to cure. m 26. Iwant pregnency sugge?

A "cure" like bacon: PCOS is never cured, rather it is managed like bacon is "cured" by preserving the ovaries "freshness" and function for long term use. As to how long that takes, that depends on when you want to get pregnant and use the ovaries for ovulation. They still may need to be "jump started" with an ovulation induction drug when you are ready for conception. ...Read more

Try soup: Preferably homemade soup -so u know what's in it! Soup can actually 'trick' the brain into thinking you ate more calories than u actually did. Then, at meal times -u will find that u are not eating as much. With the decreased intake of calories, and the increased 'burning' of calories with exercise, u should lose weight. Eat the soup BEFORE meals, it will curb the appetite. Make sure it's healthy ...Read more

I have been diagnosed with pcos and my doctor give me metformin but I still have periods all the time and I want kids soon so what are my options?

Several: Pcos is condition involving several hormonal abnormalities. These include high testosterone, low estrogen, or high Insulin levels and sometimes a combination. So sometimes several meds are used. Metformin fights the high insulin. So does a low carb diet.
