Are There Any Side Effects To Having A Colonoscopy
Veery rarely: Bleeding and injury to the bowel. In experienced hands the combined risk is less than 1 %. You may have gas and bloating afterward but these should resolve quickly and you can resume normal activity and diet the next day. The risk of having an undiagnosed colon disease or cancer is greater than the risk of the procedure.See 1 more doctor answer
Colonoscopy & liquid that's needed before test , causes me big side effects &now its needed again, please can u advice of alternative tests if any availabl?
Colonoscopy: There are many options for bowel preparation to choose from. Some of these options are much smaller in volume and also there is pill form. You should discuss your concerns with your GI physician to determine the best options for you. There are other options beside colonoscopy, but none of the other ones will have therapeutic benefits (most of the other ones are diagnostic). Again, discuss!
Versed: It can usually be used safely. There is a drug that can rapidly reverse it's effects. Although the incidence of respiratory depression/arrest is low (0.1-0.5%) when Midazolam is administered alone at normal doses, the concomitant use with CNS acting drugs, mainly analgesic opiates, may increase the possibility of hypotension, respiratory depression, respiratory arrest. www.wikipedia.com.See 1 more doctor answer
Why are some docs, incl here, so negative about unsedated colonoscopy? Mine was a wonderful learning experience w/no side effects!
Stress!: When patients are in pain, it causes significant stress on the patient and also your doctor. No doctor likes to see their patients in pain. Pain can cause heart attacks.... Also it may cause your doctor not to make maneuvers that he would have otherwise done because of not wanting to induce more pain! it takes two to tango! your doctor is a major element here too!See 1 more doctor answer
Not recommended: It would be wise to avoid drinking alcohol before any medical procedure.
My colonoscopy and gastroscopy examinations last March showed symptoms of ulcer.Should I take such exams this year? Are such exams have side effects?
Gastroscopy needed: If your colonoscopy was normal, but you were found to have an ulcer on gastroscopy, then you should have a follow up gastroscopy to make sure the ulcer is healed. I assume that you have received treatment for the ulcer.
I have to take suprep in two days for a colonoscopy but I am worried with the side effects I have read online headache chills and dehydration help???
Risk of colon preps: You are appropriately concerned about risks of colon preps. Regardless of type (lavage & osmotic agents, irritant laxatives, enemas) consideration should be given to: age, size, co-morbidlities, nutritional & hydration debilities, mobility, & help at home. Up to 50% may have nausea, vomiting, fullness/bloating, anal irritation. Greater risks result from fluid & electrolyte imbalance.Talk w/doctor.
Due to acute left side abdom pain no food in over a wk.(doc thinks bowel inflamed). Will effects of no food show up in colonoscopy?(mask s/ thing else)
Not typically: Depending on age , lower left sided abdominal pain may be an indication of diverticulitis. This might be the " inflamed bowel" you are referring to.Putting the bowel at rest with clear liquids initially, and antibiotics usually helps.A. Ct scan of the abdomen/pelvis can help make the diagnosis. After you feel better, and the infection resolves , a colonoscopy is indicated to further evaluate the colon.See 1 more doctor answer
Pain: Can be expected to a degree. However, if fever, pain is more intense or hurts with movement get checked
I had a colonoscopy a week ago today, and still have lingering discomfort in my left side just below the ribs...Should i be concerned?
Grumbling in the left side of bowells just bellow my ribs what is it no pain in night only after I get up could this be ins flare up had a colonoscopy
I don't think it is: a significant problem. Bowel sounds can be of gurgling type off and on. That is quite normal for many people. Unless you experience pain in the belly which is persistent, you should be fine. Do keep in touch with your doctor who did your colonoscopy , go see him in case you have persistent pain in your abdomen.
My coccyx been hurting off and on since my colonoscopy. Pain comes of and on i feel it when i bend over or sometimes i sit on that side or bend my nck?
Check it out: The GI that performed the colonoscopy should see you again for a possible complication.
Three spleens, Pain in left side, Bowels hard then loose, Getting a colonoscopy in 3 months, taking a lot of pain medication - what could be wrong ?
Have had severe rectal pain for 8+ mos., feels like sharp gravel on L side--started the day after a routine colonoscopy!!... Was I injured during C?
It's possible.: If your symptoms have gone on for 8 months, you really need to get back to the doctor who did the colonoscopy and be reevaluated for the cause of pain. It simply isn't possible to give any significant information on a forum without further workup and examination. Best wishes.
I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy soon. What I can expect to happen? I have strong social anxiety so I'd also like to know the personal side as well.
You will: Be asleep. The doctor will carefully insert a long tube with a lens at the end that allows him to see, and a tiny forceps that takes biopsies the size of a pencil tip. There may be a drop or two of blood, but it won't cause pain. You may feel some discomfort from the gas used to inflate the bowels to see what he's doing, but it goes away with passing gas. You can likely eat and drink afterwards.
