Are There Any Approved Treatments For Fibromyalgia Other Than Lyrica
Yes: I do not now if all of these are fda approved, but these are the medications used. Narcotics are never appropriate for fibro. Anti seizure meds like Lyrica (pregabalin) and Neurontin are used. An snri (effexor, cymbalta, or savella) is a mainstay of treatment. Physical activity is very important as well. Physical therapy can be helpful. Muscle relaxants might be used as well. Stay active! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Tramadol as long term treatment for fibromyalgia? Cymbalts made me miserable. Cannot afford lyrica, (pregabalin) am already on neurontin. Is this viable treatment
I have a problem gaining weight on medications so is there anything else you can take for fibromyalgia other than Lyrica (pregabalin)? Thank you.
Yes there are: Unfortunately, weight gain is common with many of the oral medications used in the treatment of FBS. Medications in the same classes have differing degrees to which they contribute on an individual basis. Following is a list of different classes and examples of each: AED- Lyrica, (pregabalin) gabapentin, Topamax. TCA-Doxepin, amitriptyline. SNRI-Cymbalta, venlafaxine. Topamax often causes weight loss. ...Read more
What other treatments are there for chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia other than lyrica (pregabalin) and cymbalta? How do you diagnose them?
It depends: Every fibromyalgia patient is different and a medicine that works for one patient may not work for another. Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) is a muscle relaxant that belongs to a class of drugs called the tricyclic antidepressants. Lyrica (pregabalin) is a seizure medicine that is also used to treat pain. While many patients benefit from these medicines, others don't tolerate them. You will have to try. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It is individual: Lyrica (pregabalin) at night can help pain and improve sleep in some fm patients. However, Lyrica (pregabalin) does not help others and can cause side effects that limit effectiveness. Since all fm patients are different, individualized treatment is necessary. Find a provider who will work with you to find the most effective treatment for your fibromyalgia. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Antidepressants: I have found antidepressants most helpful. Particularly ones that are dual action like Effexor (venlafaxine) and Cymbalta also tricyclics like nortriptyline. These help with sense of wellbeing and fatigue. Also getting good sleep helps. I use trazodone 50mg for this part. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Is it preferable to continue having lyrica (pregabalin) for fibromyalgia? Now my pain is better..Should I replace it with another medicine after 4 months?
If it works, do it!: Fibromyalgia is generally forever. The cause of nerve hypersensitivity is unknown but fibromyalgia patients nerves do not function like other people's. If your pain is better on lyrica, (pregabalin) do not stop it unless you are having side effects. Temporary fluctuations in fibro pain occur but significant relief is to be treasured. If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Get back on Lyrica (pregabalin).: Lyrica (pregabalin) has been shown to be effective in treating fibromyalgia pain, but usual doses are 150 mg. Three times a day. Effexor is not shown to be effective but may improve your mood. Usual doses are around 300 mg. A day. It is pretty certain that 75 mg of Effexor will not be helpful for fibromyalgia pain. You must continue to take the Lyrica (pregabalin) to get benefit. ...Read more
