Are The Donation Centers Open New Years Day
Is there any truth in people who have open growth plates don't have spine compression that makes them shorter throughout the day?
Gravity.: Everyone gets a bit shorter at the end of the standing day related to the compressive effects of gravity. The effect is small and in someone who is actively growing that shrinking might be non detectable. ...Read more
Are donor corneas stored somewhere in the country while waiting for somebody with a perfect match?
No: There is a waiting list for corneas as they need to be fresh. However, the cornea is 'immunologically privileged' and so the histocampatibility match is of little consequence. So anybody who needs one can take a proper cornea from any donor. So there is no storage needed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

After 19 unsuccesful IVF cycles is there any new breakthroughs coming out of the usa or elsewhere. Poor egg quality has been our issue. 34 yo wife.
Egg donation is best: There is limited evidence that coenzyme q10 supplements may improve energy metabolism in eggs. As long as your sperm is adequate and your wife does not have major tubal issues, there is still a chance of natural pregnancy, even after failed ivf, and even if she has high fsh levels. After 19 failed ivf cycles (19 attempts or 19 retrievals?) egg donation is the best next step: our preg. Rate is 88%. ...Read more
Depends upon parents: Best to wait until child asks appropriate questions, but wait until they are old enough to understand. Certainly avoid lies. You can tell them that sperm entered mummy's tummy and fertilized one of her eggs. They don't have to told that sperm came from a donor. When older, or when child is an adult you can tell them that they weren't old enough to understand earlier, but, you didn't lie. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is the new treatments for glaucoma. For example neuroprotection or stem cell. What are the expectations in 20 years ?
Research ongoing: Because the elevated pressure in a sensitive eye causes damage to the nerves at the back of the eye, much work is done on factors to protect these nerves and some success is present in laboratory work. Stem cell work is still far off, mostly because the defect in glaucoma is still not known. It appears to be the cells in outflow but it may be extracellular. Stay tuned. ...Read more
After all the dental consultations and planning for costs of 2 implants I am thinking of cancelling the long grueling two and one-half hour visit.(?)
Not smart: If missing teeth are scheduled to be replaced, should be done ASAP. Left untreated surrounding and opposing teeth will drift and collapse into the missing teeth areas. This will result in more expensive and intensive need for care. Keep it simple and cost effective, follow your Dentist's recommendations. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Are there any studies done on post-menopausal women starting on bio-identical hormones? Since most physicians don't care; does anyone, since its about health and quality of life for the woman and not the 'bottom line' (money)?
There : There are various tests that physicians sometimes do before starting on bio-identical hormones however, non of the tests are standardized so they don't really help in determining your dose of medication. The tests generally include the 3 different types of estrogens, an fsh level and sometimes testosterone level. Menopausal symptoms are treated based on how it is affecting lifestyle. The fsh level is helpful to see where you are in the menopause process. The estradiol/estrone/estriol check before and after starting on the hormones to ensure that you are not using too much hormones as the medication is compounded by a pharmacy. Compounding pharmacies are doing a much better job with creating the medications in specific standardized doses. Some women only need vaginal hormones while those who have hot flashes may need topical or oral medications. There are pharmaceutical grade bio-identical hormones as well such as estrace, prometrium, (micronized progesterone) climara, and vivelle, which will by covered most insurance companies. There are compounding pharmacies in kirkland, issaquah, bellevue and seattle. ...Read more

Six molars are gone, 2 at the top, four at the bottom only 25 years old. Are dental implants a good idea?
Absolutely!!!: If bone quantity/quality are sufficient, go with the implants. Be sure to get a CT scan to make sure no vital structures (nerves, blood vessels, and sinuses) are encroached upon. The other option is a partial denture. Yes dentures are cheaper, but at 43 years of age, you're way too young for dentures. If a bridge is an option you'll eventually loose the abutment teeth as well from recurrent decay. ...Read moreSee 7 more doctor answers
