When you have a genital herpes outbreak is it always a form of a blister? What other forms of an ob are there and are they always painful ?

When you have a genital herpes outbreak is it always a form of a blister? What other forms of an ob are there and are they always painful ?

Usually, not always: On dry skin, herpes lesions usually start as red bumps, within 1-2 days become blisters, then scabs that heal in 7-10 days. On moist surfaces (e.g. labia minor, vaginal opening) usually ulcers (open sores) rather than blisters. Most OBs are painful, especially ulcers, but some cause no symptoms or only minor ones, like a mild itch. Recurrent OBs usually are same area each time, +/- an inch or so, ...Read more

Multiple SMALL sores in back of throat, semi clustered but not really. Not big/ not infected looking. Strep throat or gonorhoea? Or herpes?Soundslike?

Hard to tell...: I have difficulty picturing what you mean by "multiple small sores". If painful, it could be herpes. With or without pain, it doesn't sound like either strep throat or gonorrhea. If at risk for STDs and no pain, then the secondary stage of syphilis (typically 2-6 months after being infected) might be possible. Don't take chances: play it safe and see a doctor, or public STD clinic if at risk. ...Read more

SOMETHING: Sounds like something's wrong. It would help if an expert has a chance to look at the lesion and identify it. Going to the dr wont be anonymous but better than worrying about it. Maybe the dr will even provide advice that might help now and in the future. Try it. Of xourse, this may just be an academic question - you could google it. ...Read more

How do I differentiate between syphilis and chancroid? Whats the most secretive way of getting tested for either? There are many differences between the syphilitic chancre and chancroid:
i.	Chancres are typically painless, whereas chancroid are typically

Professional care: Correct about usually painful versus painless genital sores. But there's been no chancroid in the US for many years, except maybe a few who caught it elsewhere and returned home with chancroid. Most genital ulcers aren't due to either one; herpes is far and away the most common cause. See a doctor for exam and testing. Don't worry about "secretive": medical confidentiality laws are very strong. ...Read more

Not an STD, harmless: Angiokeratoma is not an STD and has nothing to do with sex. (The large majority of skin problems of the genital area are not STDs.) Antiokeratomas may recur, but it's not a serious health problem. Discuss it with your doctor if you remain concerned. ...Read more

If a person with syphilis wipes semen and/or sores on a steering wheel, can I get it from touching that right after and rubbing eyes?

Far Fetched: The doctors here through lots of dramatic situations have stopped reacting to impossible or far fetched scenarios when it comes to the risk of infectious diseases. In the real world i cannot in any way see how the scenario you have described plays out. But, syphilis. Is caught from an infected sore skin to skin or direct blood or semen to skin. Yes: Not impossible. I'd see a doctor and get it checked out. Syphilis is sort of rare but is still around. The good news is that it is easy to test for and very easy to kill when it is caught early. but it also may be nothing at all.. maybe you bit your tongue or something. ...Read more

If you've never been sexually active (at all), it is possible to contract syphilis? Can one get syphilis canker/cold sores inside the lip from kissing

Yes and yes: Although it is rare with present prenatal screening you can inherit syphilis at birth. It is possible but extremely unlikely that you could get it through kissing, (the donor would have to be at just the right phase with germ in the blood and really bad gum disease). Most mouth sores are rather benign and self heal. These are reasonable questions, but exceedingly unlikely to happen. ...Read more

I'm having painless mouth sore - worried that it is syphilis or herpes infection, or oral cancer?

Simply: Have your own general dentist or an oral surgeon take a look at what you are describing so that you will know exactly what it is and whether or not it needs treatment. From what you describe it's unlikely it's any of the three things you mentioned. However, you should find out what it is and the only way to do that is to have someone personally examine you. ...Read more

I have a bump on my finger, a bump on my vagina and sores in my mouth with swollen lymph nodes. Is it possible I have syphilis?

See doctor: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. In case you have syphilis, it is treatable, however, it is important you see a doctor for an evaluation. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually.
