Doctor insights on:
Are Lipomas Hard Or Soft
Uncommon: Lipomas are prone to growing but they tend to grow very slowly. When a large mass is encountered that feels like a lipoma, a core biopsy is warranted before excision to be certain it is not a sarcoma. As far as the "hard" part, lipomas usually feel rubbery since they are made of fat; however, they can feel hard if they are located under the fascia that covers our muscles.
I have been told I have a lipoma on my back rib at the time was soft since then has gotten bigger, painful and hard is this due to being on top of rib?
Hello. I have a lump on my back. I was told its lipoma but its hard at the bottom and gets softer toword the top. What could this be?
Have to see it!: This is the kind of thing that a doctor needs to see. If you are not convinced your doctor is correct, see her/him again or see another doctor.
I have several, about 20 small cysts over each ribcage. They are hard, and painless. I've lost 100 pounds, and they have stayed is this lipoma's?
Sounds like: Sebaceous cysts or lipomas, nothing life-threatening. But show it to your doctor to be sure.
No: A lipoma is composed of fatty tissue and is a common soft tissue benign tumor. Lipomas are generally found underneath the skin in the fatty layer, are soft to the touch, usually movable, and are generally painless. They can be removed surgically as an outpatient, many times under a local anesthetic (depending on location). You may read of new procedures, their long term success are unproved.
Could be: Could be, see your physician to rule out a malignant growth.See 2 more doctor answers

Yes, lipomas: Can be painful and tender. But I would consider other things other than simple lipoma as a cause of the lump, especially if it is large or deep. Show it to your doctor for specific advice.
Lipoma on knee, several small ones in one area, hard, hurts, growing, there for over a month, what types could this be?
Maybe cysts: Small lumps under the skin can represent lipomas or cysts. Neither are dangerous, but can be bothersome. There are no subtypes of lipoma, which is a benign fatty tumor. Hope this helps!
I was told 6 months ago I had a lipoma and recently by another doctor it is not. What else would this large firm fixed mass be?
Lipoma on knee, under skin, started with a small one, now several small ones, closely joined, hard, hurts, & moves wen knee is straighten and relaxed?
If these soft: Tissue masses are FOR SURE lipomata, and not something more ominous, they are innocuous. If they are painful or otherwise symptomatic, they should be removed in any case. Consult with a surgeon.
I had two surgeries 2 years ago on a lipoma on my back - there is still a large, hard, painful lump. How can I tell if it is a scar or lipoma?
Get evaluated: Go to your doctor for evaluation. If you have discomfort you may need re work.
Have 2 hard marble size lumps by my rt rib and gut. Dr said lipoma but I thought they were only soft. They haven't changed in 10 months. Thoughts?
Lipomas: Are they fixed or movable? If they haven't changed in 10 months, your doctor is probably correct
