Probably herpes: Herpes is by far the main cause of "painful blisters in and around the vagina". That your partner feels he is "clean" doesn't help much; most people with genital or oral herpes don't know it and he could have infected you. Triggers?: I get these suckers too, ; they hurt! First you should to find your triggers--sun exposure, stress, fevers--and try to control for these. Definitely use a sun blocking lip balm when out.
