Herpes and new info: There is no way to honestly or correctly answer this. But, one would assume the risk is lessened while on this medication, but it not more than 50% lessened. One is still at risk for getting infected, even on medication. Remember the new rules: every sexually active adult needs the herpes blood tests to know their status. Shingles = herpes: Shingles is a reactivation of herpes zoster also known as varicella zoster virus (VZV) which causes chickenpox, typically as a child. Don't know if your: Doc has you on Acyclovir or similar. Also, zostrix (capsaicin) vaccine may decrease future outbreaks. Prednisone can be helpful & is safe if used for short period of time -can help limit long term neuralgia. The only supplement i know of is lysine 500-1000mg 3x/ day during outbreak but it can interact w some antibiotics so check w doc. Shingles: Yes and No. Shingles is often brought on by stress and or other situations that lower one's immunity temporarily such as concurrent illness, fatigue, poor nutrition.
