Just went from celexa to lexapro (escitalopram). Celexa wasn't doing much for me before. Will Lexapro (escitalopram) be any different?

Just went from celexa to lexapro (escitalopram). Celexa wasn't doing much for me before. Will Lexapro (escitalopram) be any different?

Only the: Medication trial will tell. Often you might not have an optimum response from one selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor but respond very well to another medication in that class. Celexa and Lexapro (escitalopram) are very similiary. Celexa is a racemic mix ; Lexapro (escitalopram) has the active part of the medication cleaved from the part of the med that causes side effects. May be it will work for you ; may be it won't. ...Read more

What is the difference between Lexapro (escitalopram) and celexa?

What is the difference between Lexapro (escitalopram) and celexa?

Lexapro (escitalopram) is more pure: Some chemicals, like Celexa have 2 forms which are mirror images of each other. (like your hands) chemists wil refer to them as left or right sided versions. While Celexa includes both forms, Lexapro (escitalopram) only contains one (the left handed version). Since these drugs act on receptors in the nervous system, like keys in a lock, the right and left handed molecules have some different effects. ...Read more

Went to take my Lexapro (escitalopram) 20mg QD and was out. Can I take my wife's Celexa 20mg for one dose until I get my refill tomorrow?

Probably: These medications are not equivalent to each other ... Although chemically they're like a parent and child. That said, Lexapro (escitalopram) has a fairly long half life (about 30 hours), so it's probably safest to just skip 1 dose and resume it tomorrow when you have it refilled from the pharmacy. Hope that helps! ...Read more
