Residual infection: The hard, leathery, often darkened skin @ the site of a boil is residual inflammation from the skin infection. The skin should soften over time, but cd leave a scar. I wd say at this point, it's normal. But watch for fevers, more drainage, or worsening symptoms that may mean the infection (boil) is coming back. Also get checked for MRSA & diabetes (which predispose to boils) if this is not 1st one ...Read more

Large boil on panty line. Not red, but soft in middle and hard around and very painful. I've had it for a month or longer. What should I do?
Boil?: A boil is a localized skin infection which should be red, hot, swollen and tender. Also, it should feel hard unless it is a localized abscess and has pus. If so, it is unlikely it would be present for a month without change. Other considerations are a benign fatty mass called lipoma or a bruise in the area from trauma from your panty elastic. Regardless, a doc visit is a good idea to find out. ...Read more
What to do I break out with boils I gusse they are if I squeez them the will turn purple and red then I pop it and grren stuff comes out I got 9scars from this what is this
Hello.: Hello. It sounds like you may be getting bacterial infections of your skin. Staphylococcus aureus is often the cause. You can place warm compresses on the boil, replacing as it cools down for 20 to 30 minutes at a time every few hours. However, since this is a recurrent problem for you, recommend that you see your regular doctor or a dermatologist to determine the cause. Don't cut it open. I know it is hard to resist squeezing them but that can cause the infection to spread. So don't squeeze the boils either. If you get redness and warmth in the surrounding skin - it could be a sign of cellulitis. If the boil is very large or doesn't resolve within a few days, recommend getting is seen more promptly. If you develop a fever in reaction to the boil - than you need to get immediate care. Don't know your age or health, but if you are diabetic or immune compromised for another reasons, you should not delay in getting seen. Take care. ...Read more

Could I have a boil? My fiancée found something on my butt, it's really red, and big but he didn't see it until today and it doesn't hurt
Show it to a doctor: Boils often hurt, especially when you touch them, so this a bit unusual. Is the lesion raised up? Does it have a pus-filled center like a volcano? Those would be other characteristics of a boil. Boils can definitely occur in the butt area, since that is a normal habitat for Staph -and many boils are caused by Staph. A doctor should be able to definitively diagnose that AND help with the treatment. ...Read more
