Using permethrin 5% lotion now & washing bed sheets, will they get infested again tonight? Do I have to wash them again tomorrow?

Unlikely a problem: The Permethrin will kill the mites rather quickly and treated individuals are not considered contagious after 8 hours. The skin disruption may take weeks to fade because that takes more time. I would not worry about reinfection from your sheets. ...Read more

Does nix (permethrin) lice lotion kill scabies?

Does nix (permethrin) lice lotion kill scabies?

Not a good choice: Nonprescription nix (permethrin 1%) is used to treat lice but is not strong enough to cure scabies. Prescription Permethrin 5% (elimite) cream is the most common medication to treat scabies and it works well. Lindane is mentioned in the above answer- it is rarely used now and carries a boxed warning because it has caused seizures and death in some age groups and low weight individuals. ...Read more

I had scabies. I used many times permethrin cream and lindane lotion. Now I don't feel ithing just I feel they crawing in my body. Is it normal?

Scabies and Skin: Many doctors say that, "as anxiety increases, your specific anxiety symptom increases---your skin sensations become more severe". It's a vicious cycle: when you're afraid of the skin crawling sensation occurring, your mind obsesses, and you end up feeling the skin crawling sensation again. It may be a symptom of your anxiety of having scabies. ...Read more

Is it mites? Family is itchy but no rash. PA says try Nix (permethrin) as an overnight lotion, shower off in the am. Sound like reasonable course of treatment?

Is it mites? Family is itchy but no rash. PA says try Nix (permethrin) as an overnight lotion, shower off in the am. Sound like reasonable course of treatment?

Itchy Family: Treating the entire family for mites when the entire itches seems reasonable. Mites, on the other hand, should not cause loose stools. Loose stools along with rash make me think of viral or bacterial causes. Other environmental causes should be considered such as new laundry detergent, new soap, new carpet, new paint, new pet or recent travel and the related environmental exposures. ...Read more

I was thinking of using Lindane for pubic lice its not recommed for people with epilepsy like myself. Its it affective. Permethrin and lotion failed.

Lindane probably OK: Permethrin is extremely effective and reliable. Are you sure it failed? Are you still seeing live (moving) lice, not just nits (eggs) attached to pubic hair? Also, itching can take up to 2-3 weeks to clear up, even when treatment is successful. But if you need lindane, it should be safe if not grossly overused or ingested. But check with the doctor treating your epilepsy if in doubt. ...Read more

Pregnant 5 months with head lice. Can use anti-lice lotion or shampoo contain ingredients permethrin 1% w/w or Dimethicone or benzyl benzoate 25% w/v?

Head lice: Permethrin 1% is safe while pregnant. Dimethicone topical moisturizer is safe too. You don't need Benzyl benzoate 25% if Dimethicone worked as a moisturizer, and you don't need it to treat head lice, wish you a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby ...Read more

I applied permethrin an hour ago. It soothed the itching and the hives I have from an allergic reaction to another medication. May I apply calamine or?

I would avoid it: I find calamine would be excessively drying & may add to your itching problem. AA cool compress applied to the more irritated areas can quell itching & a thin layer of 1% hydrocortisone cream may reduce the irritation. ...Read more

What happens to me if I apply a second treatment of permethrin cream before the 2 weeks recommend? I did one last night and want another now! Help me

Not needed: Assuming your treatment was for scabies, even though a second treatment this soon would not be harmful, it also would be of little value. Treatment with Permethrin does not immediately cure the itch of scabies. It usually takes at least two weeks for the itching to subside. Meanwhile treatments for the itching such as antihistamines or anti-itch lotions such as sarna lotion should help. ...Read more

Permethrin cream: You should read the info on national institutes of health online www. Nlm. Nih. Gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a698037.

I was diagnosed w/ scabies. Did the permethrin cream 2x w/ the 1st apply 3 weeks ago and I am still itching like crazy. When does it stop it itching?

Scabies: A diagnosis of scabies can be clinical (observation) or by a skin scraping (microscope). If you are not improved after 3 weeks, you should have a scraping done. Most scabies does continue to itch even after treatment for about a week or two. Either this is the wrong diagnosis or treatment has failed. Scabies can be hard to get rid of. ...Read more

How often I can repeat the application of permethrin?

Permethrin: Is usually applied once and repeated in 1-2 weeks. Treatment of family members and decontamination of your home is very important so that repeated doses beyond the two above can be avoided.
