If your CBC came up normal in all aspects except elevated WBC (14) can I dismiss luekemia as a threat?
Share on twitter bookmark & share printer-friendly version a complete blood count (CBC) test measures the following: •the number of red blood cells (rbc count) •the number of white blood cells (wbc count) •the total amount of hemoglobin in the blood •the fraction of the blood composed of ...Read more
Routine CBC, basophils elevated at 2.9%, basophils absolute normal at .1, WBC normal at 5000. Does this mean anything?
Hard to guess: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. If the patient's blood basophil count is slightly higher than the reference range, the ordering doctor may or may not consider the result a problem, depending on the patient's previous results, her symptoms, and her medications. ...Read more
Wbc count elevated past 5 cbcs now dr says seeing a different type of WBC waiting on a hemotologist to come see me , what schould i expect to hear ?
A working diagnosis: Whether you have a low-grade leukemia or other myeloproliferative / myelodysplastic syndrome. Many of these require no treatment and/or can be managed fairly easily. Since you are clever enough to have found healthtap, you will want to learn about your test results -- there will probably be a lot of gene studies and you'll be getting an education. Best wishes. ...Read more
My CBC came back indicating slightly elevated WBC and the statement "large platelets present". What does this mean?
Nothing: It is of no clinical significance. Just reporting incidental findings of normal variants. ...Read more
Hi, I need your opinion. My CBC indicates elevated basophils (0.11) and platecount (416). On the otherhand, urinalysis shows WBC 11-25 and RBC 3-5 hpf?
Recheck results: Hi Shariel - Your mildly elevated CBC results may not indicate a medical condition as normal values are based on population averages. I would recommend retesting to see if there is truly an issue. Your urinalysis is concerning for an infection and treatment should be considered. Thankfully your CBC did not indicate the infection had spread into your blood otherwise the neutrophils would be high. ...Read more
Hi! I'm a long-time flonase user. My cbc shows elevated wbc 13.0. I'm seeing my pcp tomorrow. What should I tell her? Thank you!
Elevated WBC: An elevated WBC could be a normal response to a recent viral or bacterial infection. Flonase should have no effect on your white count. Review recent lab work as well as all current medications with PCP at appointment tomorrow. He or she should be able to offer insights into what might have caused elevated wbc. ...Read more
Had a physical did a routine cbc. My wbc was slightly elevated at 10.83 the lab cutoff was 10.0 is this a concern result. Rest of cbc normal. ?
Cellulitis, was on keflex for 4 days now and steroids, just had CBC and WBC is normal. Does WBC go down that fast? I thought that would be elevated
CBC results = normal WBC except for one type(don't know which one) that is a little elevated - she said it could be caused by acne, scared of cancer!
Not a screening tool: A CBC by itself is not a very good screening tool for cancer. The results you reported are not consistent with a blood cancer and beyond that it provides little evidence either way. If your listed anxiety disorder makes you worry continually about cancer, or anything else, work on the issue with a therapist who can confer with your doc to see if or when additional studies would be worthwhile. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have slightly elevated WBC consisting of high lymphocytes as well as high neutrophils for two CBC tests taken about a month apart. What can this be?
How do you FEEL?: Unless the absolute neutrophil count and/or the absolute lymphocyte count are quite far from their respective reference ranges, or abnormal cells are present, it means nothing. I've shot my neuts to almost 20,000 by taking a cold swim. The ranges are set so that several percent of healthy folks fall outside, and counts fluctuate wildly even hour-to-hour. Stop worrying and focus on fitness. Cheers. ...Read more
CBC in Jan showed WBC 5, monocytes .40, June now, WBC is 3.8, monocytes slightly elevated said immunologist, debilitating fatigue. what could be prob?

On my CBC I noticed my WBC was 11.1 and my ses rate was 41 and my platelets was 423 these are elevated . I don't feel good and having joint and bone?
Inflammatory markers: Elevated WBC, sed rate (also called erythrocyte sedimentation rate, or ESR), and platelet counts can all be increased in an inflammatory state. Inflammation can certainly cause body aches and feeling poorly. As your doctor ordered the sed rate, then he or she is already looking for evidence of inflammation. You should follow-up with your doctor about next steps. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
36 yr old male sed rate 7 feel terrible no doctor, what can this be.. I'm scared CBC also had slightly elevated wbc, mono, lymph, rbc, could be AIDS?
Probably not: but see your doctor for an hiv check just in case. Probably a viral illness causing inflammation and an elevated white count.. Probably will be normal in a few weeks when your doctor repeats it for reassurance. CBC's are a cheap test. Your sed rate is normal. Why no doctor? There are clnics that use sliding scales and free ones for the uninsured. From now on please use condoms & limit sex partners ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had cbc done. slightly elevated wbcs 10.97. neutra 7.29 imm gran .5 have also had extreme lower back pain and ankle pain in am. fatigue and achy?
Could be very nasty: You present with a history of extreme back pain and a blood picture of immature blood cells. This argues for your marrow pushing out new cells. You need to see a hematologist right away to find out what's happening inside your marrow. I fear you may have a bad diagnosis ahead but you need a good work up. ...Read more
Cbc showed elevated WBC level of 16.7k/ul and CSF cell count with diff. Showed lymphocytes @86 and monocytes @14. history of arachnoid cyst what is it?
50+ days ago went to ER w/ kidney stone. CBC showed elevated WBC. ER & PCP doctor were not concerned. Is this normal? Makes me nervous about cancer.
Many things elevate : The white cell count is elevated in response to many things including pain associated with a kidney stone. If the elevation was mild to moderate and the distribution of white cells was the expected distribution, then there is nothing to worry about. If it was severely elevated and with an unusual distribution of the different types of white cells then there is something to worry about. ...Read more
Pain on right lower side near hip, had hysterectomy left ovaries not an appendicitis. Cbc 2x WBC & platelets low, traces of blood protein in urine?
Uti kidney stone: Not all pain is abdominal. Your history helps and you probably need to see your doctor. If your pain is waxing it could be a stone. Blood in urine too. Urinary tracy infections can also cause blood. Usually an elevated WBC count for both however. A femoral hernia or incisional hernia by physical exam. ...Read more
