Follow ENT Direction: If you have no pain, you should at least do warm saline gargles, but slight difficulty swallowing is an issue. You've not listed what s/he said to do to help with this. They are the expert in their field, and would follow their guidelines for OTC and Rx meds/inhalers needed to resolve your condition as quickly as possible. Not sure of Question: If you have aphthous and/or herpes the palliative treatment is the same. Hot salt water rinses (1tsp salt/10 oz water) 4-5 times/day,7-10 days. Herpes outside the mouth will benefit from Zovirax (acyclovir) or similar topical. See your Dentist if you get herpes, as there are immediate treatments which help if taken right away.
