Just finished 10 days of amoxicillin for dx strep throat. Nnow developed what seems to be aphthous ulcers. 1 on tonsil. Can I wait it out a few days?

Follow ENT Direction: If you have no pain, you should at least do warm saline gargles, but slight difficulty swallowing is an issue. You've not listed what s/he said to do to help with this. They are the expert in their field, and would follow their guidelines for OTC and Rx meds/inhalers needed to resolve your condition as quickly as possible. Not sure of Question: If you have aphthous and/or herpes the palliative treatment is the same. Hot salt water rinses (1tsp salt/10 oz water) 4-5 times/day, 7-10 days. Herpes outside the mouth will benefit from Zovirax (acyclovir) or similar topical. See your Dentist if you get herpes, as there are immediate treatments which help if taken right away. Recurrent ulcers that often is not normal. There is no common cause for aphthous ulcers. Aphthous ulcers can be caused by acidic foods, allergies, trauma/irritation, viral infection, and very often reaction to stress.

the apthous ulcer will usually go away in 2 weeks if you don't do anything. If you rinse with listerine (purple or green bottle) when it first arises. It will stay small or almost not develope and it will be gone in days or 1 week. The purple bottle seems to works the best. ...Read more

Nothing really: Unfortunately not much can be done for those pesky buggers. They take about 14 days to run their course. It is counterproductive to try to put anything on them.
