Doctor insights on:
Apetamin is a vitamin supplement that contains cyproheptadine. This is an old fashioned antihistamine traditionally used to help patients gain appetite. Antihistamines can call drowsiness, fast heart rate, dry mouth etc. I would not use this product until you have reviewed it with your MD to make sure your not at risk. Cross reacts with other at times.

I'm 18 years of age weight 174 lbs and would like to use apetamin to gain weight in some areas so they can be fuller like my butt. Is it s good idea?
No.: Taking a daily multivitamin is a good idea. There is no way that you can gain weight to only certain areas of your body. If you gain weight, it will go everywhere. The best way to manage this is to maintain a prudent, low-carb diet; and exercise daily for good muscle tone. With your body and your weight, find satisfaction with the size and shape that you have inherited; but stay conditioned! ...Read more

Hi, I've started my apetamin on Friday March 6, before bed with 5 mL. The next day I didn 't feel hungry at all, and since then, I still don't see a change in my appetite. Is it normal for this to happen? And should I continue to take it?
Appetite stimulants: Apetamin is a blend of cyproheptadine and some vitamins which is supposed to stimulate your appetite. I have to say that appetite stimulants are pretty iffy. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't and I have not known them to work instantly, usually they take a few days. I don't like them but if you need to gain weight, it's worth a try. Good luck :) ...Read more

Ok but: This drug is same as Periactin- an antihistamine we used to use to stimulate appetite. HOwever it does cause most people to be drowsy and thus not the safest drug to choose. My son is 6 weeks old. We changed him to aptamil comfort yesterday and today he has done 3 explosive poos in the space of 45 mins is this normal?
Normal: Yes, these blow you away poops are indeed normal for newborns. They have a very sensitive gastrocolic reflex, where when something touches their lips or they feed it blows out the other end. This is actually a good thing to have, a million times better than constipation. This type of stooling usually starts to settle down between 2-3 months of age. ...Read more
On The Bottle Again?: If taken from the Ganges River I'd advise that you do. But most commercially bottled water is OK. My grandfather always boiled the tap water to get rid of the chlorine in it but as far as I know most bottled water doesn't have that, or fluoride in it. No harm in boiling it though, as long as it's body temperature or less when given to the baby. ...Read more
