I've been on a high fibre diet at doctors advice because of condition that waiting on colonoscopy to determine. Now stool has U digested vegi's often. Is it because high fibre? Does it matter? Stay with same fibre intake or could it be harmful?

Of course, Hi-fiber=: lots of plant material (cellulose of cell wall, not membranes), which humans cannot break down (ruminant animals use bacteria in stomach to do this). Drainage needed: For the most part colonoscopy is a well tolerated procedure with little if any complication. Occassionally if a small lesion is biopsied, the biopsy forceps takes too deep a bite and a small pinhead performation can occur. Leakage of fecal material causes abscess. Antibiotics needed and abdominal scan to define any collection also required. This would suggest whether drainage required. ...Read more

I usually encourage my patients to either ask myself or the gastroenterologist who will be performing the procedure. They should be willing to answer your questions. I am not sure: why, but I think you need to wait for biopsy results in any case, because without it, colonoscopy would not have been useful. It will take several days for results to come back from pathologist. ...Read more

I think if you had: had a serious TIA 5 years ago, and you are 76 years old now, you would have developed other symptoms of compromised circulation to head/brain.Magnesium citrate is a strong laxative; my stronger suspicion is that you became dehydrated with electrolyte abnormalities (possibly low sodium) and had "metabolic delirium. Scheduled a colonoscopy. Chose twilight sedation. Gastro commented on patient that kept talking and had to sedate a lot, hard to wake up. Oversadation?

Anything possible: Some people react adversely or excessively to doses of sedatives that do not affect others. Have no idea what happened in the situation you describe. Ask the doctor. ...Read more

Drug tests: Are not usually part of the workup for a colonoscopy. But if for some reason your doctor does decide to to a drug screen (more often tested via urine than blood), thc could show up depending on frequency of use. ...Read more
