Anxiety Medication To Replace Clonazepam
Which is a better anti depressant drug to treat panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Lexapro (escitalopram) or zoloft?
Both Potentially: Lexapro (escitalopram) and zoloft are similar medications and have both been shown to be helpful for panic, anxiety, and depression. There is probably a decreased percentage of side effects with lexapro (escitalopram), (escitalopram) so it might be preferable for that reason. However, plenty of people do well with either medicine, and I have had some patients do well with zoloft after not getting benefit with lexapro (escitalopram). ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Trying to decide which medication to taper off of first- Lamictal, Trazadone, or Klonopin (clonazepam). Have trouble sleeping even with Klonopin (clonazepam) and Lamictal.
Why?: It is not clear why you would wish to do this. It sounds like your problems are insufficiently treated, with a continuing disruption in sleep. Perhaps the doses are too low; perhaps their timing needs to be changed; perhaps the medicines need to be replaced. Consult your psychiatrist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Ativan (lorazepam) can help with: Panic attacks. However, i encourage my patients to learn non-medication ways to handle panic and anxiety. Here is one simple tip: breath in slowly ; deeply through your nostrils. Fill your lungs with air (but not to the point of discomfort). Hold for a count of five then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to. ...Read more
Xanax (alprazolam): Most likely, no.Get a more detailed answer ›
Possibly: Concerns are that with increasing age (there is early onset alzheimer's too), benzodiazepines (like xanax) can cause "fogginess", falls, & hip fractures. From another perspective it may be acting as just a band-aid --- once it's gone, everything rebounds. Ultimately, other agents like antidepressants & even the alzheimer's medications can provide relief. Don't forget exercise, yoga, & tai chi. ...Read more
Not enough: Problem with xanax (alprazolam) (and many similar anxiety drugs) is that it wears off. Another problem is that some doctors don't worry enough about this "short"-coming when they prescribe xanax (alprazolam). If you are not controlling anxiety with current dose, going higher adds to the risk that you are going to have even worse anxiety, as the xanax (alprazolam) wears off. This is a bad vicious cycle that you don't want to get into. ...Read more
Possibly: Citalopram and Buspirone are both described as being effective for anxiety. The magnitude of the difference between their effects is likely small if studied formally in a research setting although my experience with both is that i would predict someone would experience more comprehensive reduction in the severity of their anxiety and panic attacks in the context of citalopram treatment. ...Read more
Not the best choice: While ativan is effective in reducting feelings of anxiety, it is also both short actiing and habit forming. This makes it the sort of medicine that you may develop a tolerance to, and it is also a medication that you need to wean off of. Benzos are never the best choice. Talk to your doc about soemthing like Buspar (buspirone) or another antidepressant. They do not carry these risks. ...Read more
