Antiseptic 1st Aid Medication
Can i use rite aid's first aid antiseptic to clean new ear piercings? it says 91% isopropyl alcohol.
My mom has diabetes and regularly takes insulin shots. She has a wound on her right toe. What first aid medication should I give her and her wound?
Not emergent: More damage is done trying to lower BP quickly than from high bp. 140/100 is mildly elevated and is not harmful over the shortrun. High BP causes damage over many years. That said, the first line drug is hydrochlorothiazide which is dirt cheap, has only rare side effects, and has excellent outcome data. ...Read more
I want to know if there is any snake bit first aid drug that can be bought, kept at home and taken as first aid, before taken victim to hospital ?
No.: Snake bite antivenin is extremely expensive and requires medical supervision to give it and to monitor for side effects. It is great that you are making up a first aid kit though! Everyone should do so. By the way: diphenhydramine (Benadryl), liquid and capsule forms, should be in everybody's medicine cabinet, to prevent potentially fatal allergic reactions which can occur without warning. ...Read more
Opinion Question.: The best first aid kits are the ones that include the most variety of items you feel comfortable using. Usually first aid kits don't use brand name products in it. Having a first aid kit that has items you feel you will never feel comfortable using, would be a waste of money. This is an opinion question. ...Read more
What is the best thing to do to start to aid "bladder leakage"? Is there a medication that I can start to relieve it?
Maybe...: If you are having leakage of urine when you cough, laugh, or sneeze...a condition known as stress urinary incontinence...it may be due to declining sex hormone levels. Correcting these hormone levels (IMO, using "bio-identical" estrogens, testosterone, and progesterone) is best. But in other women, I've had some success recommending OTC pseudoephedrine ("Sudafed") which tightens sphincters. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
HOW do u aid a oral mucocele ? Do I have to see a doc n get prescribed a certain medication or is there store medicine I can jus buy ?
Exercise medication: Anxiety disorders can be treated with different classes of meds - safest in terms of low risk potential are probably the ssris but many of those can in fact cause weight gain. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is approved for depression - may or may not help for anxiety and may reduce weight a little. Cognitive-behavioral therapy directed at lifestye, exercise, stress reduction, etc is very effective, but takes work. ...Read more
Everyone is: different but setting target date to stop and then stopping completely on that day can be effective. Learning some self-hypnosis can support this plan of action. Chewing gum or eating mints is useful, especially at high risk times like coffee breaks. Peace and good health. Medication is possible but try to avoid the passive "give me a pill" mentality. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Is the use of prescription medication like Concerta recommended to purely aid studying concentration? And is such safe for people with elevated bp?
No and no: The use of such a drug for studying was once popular in the 50's & 60's in the US but less so after it was classified as a controlled substance. Possession in the US without a valid reason/prescription is punished as a felony drug crime. If you were not ADD as a kid & don't have a valid diagnosis any effect is more likely placebo with a few exceptions. It can raise blood pressure & heart rate. ...Read more

You can get a script from your GP, or if funding is a problem, you may need to go to the local state clinic. ...Read more
Can I take Somnapure natural sleep aid and Puritea natural energy and antioxidants from Peak Life with current medications?
I'd be careful ...: As you know, manufacture of herbal supplements is not regulated so their purity, safety and effectiveness can not be guaranteed. You are on some medicines, including Lamictal and Toviaz, (fesoterodine) which are unique and actually could interact with quite a few things. Somnopure contains valerian extract & Puritea contains ginseng. I hate to discourage something that sounds so promising, but I would avoid. ...Read more
My daughter was recently diagnosed with adhd i would like to know if vitamins would affect her medication? And if not what would be recommended to aid
Not particularly: It is unlikely to either effect the medications or the condition. Unless there are nutritional deficiencies leading to a vitamin deficiency, vitamin supplements are waste. Like many chronic conditions with difficult management you will find a multitude of treatment suggestions on the net that have little value. Identifying learning problems, meds and talk therapy are the basic approach. ...Read more
