Get checked: If you have already tried Benadryl (diphenhydramine) your doctor can prescribe stronger medicines depending on what you have. Good luck and avoid the new shirt as you may have developed an allergy to it.

Chronic urticaria: You likely have CU about 30-40% of which are thought to be from an autoimmune cause. IN the absence of throat swelling and given your response to antihistamine, this is more a quality of life than a health issue. An allergy consult may be beneficial.

Is it normal that roseola rash worsen as days go by? What can I do for my kid? Pls help no fever she is itching and we gave antihistamine

Cool bath may help.: Roseola rash is generally not itchy and lasts about 3 days. Itchy rash sounds more an like allergic reaction or urticaria that can come as a result of infection, so if rash doesn't clear in 3 days, please get evaluation. Continue antihistamine. Sometimes topical lotions that leave the skin feeling cool also is effective.

Horrible itching with no rash. Prednisone makes it stop not antihistamine. Blood work shows nothing. 5 weeks now. What is it and how stop itching?

Itching: There is a condition known as stress induced urticaria that can cause this. If you are anxious, seek help and your itching may be better. There may also be other causes that just do not cause a rash, so keep getting evaluated and worked up as needed. Best wishes.

Dry skin: In the winter months, the first thing I consider would be dry skin. Try using unscented soap and apply a skin moisturizer all over within 3 minutes after bathing to see it this helps. It may take a few days for the skin to calm down. If problem persists, then need to consult a dermatologist or allergist.

Raised lumps and extreme itching burning rash on limbs, antihistamine give some relief doc doc changed the brand of my meds. What to do now?

Sounds like...: Sounds like the assumption is that you're having an allergic reaction to your meds. If so, stopping it should be enough. Can take a while for your body to clear though. Continue anti-histamine. Avoid getting overheated (exertion or hot bath/shower). Can add topical steroid cream. See doctor if not better 7-10 days after change in meds.

My 12 yr old son has slapped cheek rash but just on his arms. He is itching madly all over, antihistamine doesn't seem to help. What can I do to help?

My 12 yr old son has slapped cheek rash but just on his arms. He is itching madly all over, antihistamine doesn't seem to help. What can I do to help?

Fifth's Disease: Your description is of "fifth's disease." this is an exanthem (rash) caused by parvovirus b19. The facial rash (slapped cheeks) & truncal rash (lacy) last about a week. Nothing other than cool compresses or oatmeal baths help the skin, since the rash is inside the skin from an infection. Systemic antihistamines may help, but topical creams play no role in helping this condition.

Hard: Hard to tell without a clinical examination, but perhaps it is psoriasis or eczema? Read more about these conditions (and a classic picture on the arms, legs) and treatment options at the link below. I hope that helps a little!

Husband quit drinking alcohol a month ago and skin itches, keeps him up at night even when taking antihistamine. Related to quitting drinking?

Husband quit drinking alcohol a month ago and skin itches, keeps him up at night even when taking antihistamine. Related to quitting drinking?

Not expected.: Alcohol usually worsens itching unless one has drunk oneself into a semi-stupor. Not all itching is induced by histamine and thus it may not work at all. Dry skin is the most common cause for itching without a rash, consider applying a moisturizer <3 mins after bathing to see if this helps. Make sure that no new medication or supplement was introduced shortly before the onset of itching.

The back of my legs itch bad. When I shave it goes away. When the hair grows back it itches bad. I've had it for some time and doctors have given me antihistamines for it. One doctor said I had an allergy to my own hair.

Irritation?: Your hair is likely very curve and thus when they are long enough they may start to "tickle" or irritate your leg. This would not be helped by taking an antihistamine although a topical numbing agent or cortisone may. Since you have already found the solution, why not shave more frequently?

I have sulfa allergy. I have itching, burning rashes all over my body. Can I take one Claritin (24 hr) in the morning and two Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night?

Allergic rash: You can take 4 10mg Claritin (loratadine) a day for chronic hives. Be sure it is Claritin (loratadine) plain without decongestant. Avoid Sulfite-containing foods like wine, dried fruits, radishes, potatoes, shrimp

Uncontrollable itching, no rash, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for 3 days stop med this am and itch is back. What is it? How long take benadryl (diphenhydramine)? Feel miserable. Help!

Find cause: It is important to find the cause of itching. This may need a dermatologist to see you on consultation. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a temp relief medicine, it does not cure the problem. Make sure your skin is well moisturized as dry skin can be the cause especially with all the heating going on in the house during cold months.

Itching all over no rash for three weeks. Tried Benadryl (diphenhydramine) but it don't work it gets worse at night?

Needs an evaluation: There are a lot of reasons to be very itchy, from scabies infestation to eczema to liver or kidney disease. Each one needs different treatments so you need to get evaluated by your physician asap. In the meantime, use gentle cleansers on the skin and moisturize at least twice daily to keep the skin calm. And try your best not to scratch!

Does Benadryl (diphenhydramine) help contact dermatitis rash go away or does be Benadryl (diphenhydramine) only help with itching not the swelling?

Does Benadryl (diphenhydramine) help contact dermatitis rash go away or does be Benadryl (diphenhydramine) only help with itching not the swelling?

Contact dermatitis: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and other antihistamines treat reactions that are cause by histamine release, like hives (urticaria). Contact dermatitis is inflammation driven by cells of the immune system called lymphocytes. Taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for contact dermatitis will make you sleepy but doesn't reduce itch or inflammation. Contact dermatitis responds to topical and if severe enough, oral steroids.
