Depends on the situa: If i suspect a newborn has gbs , a life threatening condition, i will give it iv.If mom is gbs + during labor, she will get meds iv. They used to give some oral meds years ago to try to get rid of it in gbs+moms but found the practice unreliable & ineffective. ...Read more

Maybe: Carrier state can be hard to eradicate--both partners would need to be treated, otherwise, they will keep giving the infection to each other. The most serious issue is group b strep and newborn infection. Make sure other infections are being checked for. ...Read more

Not a good idea.: Improperly treated streph can lead to serious complications.For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a streph throat test. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day.
