I just finished bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for inflamed cyst, I also have been having chronic diverticulitis can these antibiotics treat diverticulitis same time?

I just finished bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for inflamed cyst, I also have been having chronic diverticulitis can these antibiotics treat diverticulitis same time?

Possibly: However, if it is going to work you actually must have a confirmed diagnosis of acute diverticulitis, not chronic diverticulosis. You would need 14 days of antibiotics and a 6-week course of low/no fiber diet. My preference is to confirm diverticulitis by labs, exam and possible CT scan, then initiate the above treatment if confirmed. I prefer levaquin/metronidazole as a more effective antibiotic ...Read more

Been taking Flagyl and keflex for diverticulitis have developed a yeast infection, can I take fluconazole along with my antibiotics to treat it?

Yes: Fluconazole can be taken along with Keflex and flagyl. Stop the Macrobid you list as taking. This drug has many toxicities and is only a urinary antiseptic which does not achieve therapeutic tissue levels. It is only used to treat or prevent bladder infections. You certainly don't need to take it while you are on the other antibiotics. ...Read more

I'm on a low fibre diet for a few weeks after a diverticulitis attack still have running poo is this ok. I still on antibiotics?

Yes: It is ok.

You colon is still reacting and recovering from inflammation. This is a common finding.

Things, however, to be careful for. It should not be worsening. No fevers/chills. If the runny stool is pure water, that is concerning. If it is so much that it can dehydrate you, that is concerning.

Overall, if it is not slowly improving, see your doctor. If worse at any point, see your doctor. ...Read more

I have infected diverticulitis and on clamoxyl. This is the secon antibiotics in a week. Should I exercise while I have this infection.?

My wife received antibiotics for treatment of diverticulitis today and took them about 3 hours ago. Her fever is higher now. Is that okay?

Probably: Three hours is too short a time to expect results from antibiotics taken by mouth. Fevers are not uncommon in diverticulitis. If the fever is not making your wife very uncomfortable, then she should just drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. Fever is a natural protective mechanism of the body that helps fight infection. However, if she is uncomfortable, she should take Tylenol (acetaminophen). ...Read more
