Probiotics: Most people don't need probiotics after taking a course of antibiotics, since the normal bacterial flora of the gut repopulates rapidly after stopping antibiotics. Having said that, there are not usually many side effects, if you do decide to try them. Good luck ...Read more
In case of recurrent UTI/diarrhea problem, can usage of Saccharomyces Boulardii probiotic and Cranberry juice cause harm & cause UTI again?
Will a regimen of azithromycin and doxycycline treat chronic bacterial prostatitis on a par with cipro (ciprofloxacin) or levaquin?
Not necessarily.: Each antibiotic you mentioned has its own profile of bacteria that it is effective against. If your chronic prostatitis is caused by a bacteria that is resistant, treatment will fail. A culture of the bacteria, with antibiotic sensitivity data is therefore key to treating the infection. Before culture results are known, details of your history will guide antibiotic choice. ...Read more

Yes: Evidence shows that probiotics ease symptoms of antibiotic associated diarrhea. Caution though: are the symptoms really antibiotic associated, and what is the quality of the probiotic? Im allergic to both flagyl & clindamycin. Can i use the naturaal remedies such as peroxide douching or yogurt tampons for bv?
Sorry, won't work: Unfortunately, these won't work. And douching, with peroxide or anything else, is a very bad idea, especially for BV. It can flush bacteria into the tubes and increase the risk of PID. Check with your doctor whether truly allergic and could safely take metronidazole or clindamycin. Vaginal boric acid capsues are another possible option. Best to see a doc highly experienced in BV and infections. ...Read more

Natural probiotics: I believe 'natural' probiotics are better than pills. My personal favorite is yogurt - which these days comes in many brands and formulations like yogurt drinks. If you're not a yogurt fan, there is sour cream, (raw) sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha. With cipro, (ciprofloxacin) the major side-effects are nausea, diarrhea, weakness of tendons, and dizziness. If you take yogurt, separate the dose of Cipro (ciprofloxacin) from it. ...Read more

I've heard probiotics can be harmful to those with weakened immune systems. I'm getting over bronchitis - can I take them? Not on antibiotics.
Should be okay: Probiotics are organisms, not "good or bad", that supplement your colonic flora. Peer review literature shows 1 in 4 patients treated are clinically improved with probiotics. Probably won't help: No probiotic is likely to be effective in treating a yeast infection. If that's what you have, you need treatment with a proper anti-yeast antibiotic. However, if you're talking about "systemic" candidasis, it's an urban myth; there is no such thing, and no treatment makes any difference. Discuss with a scientifically trained physician.
