What is the dosage and duration of cipro (ciprofloxacin) for sinus infection?

What is the dosage and duration of cipro (ciprofloxacin) for sinus infection?

It depends.: For the average size adult without kidney or liver problems, the appropriate dose for an acute sinus infection (symptoms present for only a week or so) is 500mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days. Chronic sinusitis (infection persisting for several weeks or more) is often treated for much longer, up to 4-6 weeks of antibiotic therapy. ...Read more

Is Levaquin (levofloxacin) 500mg taken for 14 days a good dosage to treat a severe acute sinus infection and will it be enough?

Should be: However keep in mind many acute sinus infections are actually viral so antibiotics are not needed in the first place. Symptomatic management such as hydration, humidifier, and NSAID will best help you get through the infection. ...Read more

My 40lbs 5yr old was given a dosage of 10 ml twice a day of liquid amoxicillin (400mg/5ml) for sinus infection Does this seem right? Thanks.

My 40lbs 5yr old was given a dosage of 10 ml twice a day of liquid amoxicillin (400mg/5ml) for sinus infection Does this seem right? Thanks.

Seems high: For a severe sinus infection I would prescribe 45 mg / kg /day divided in 2 doses. Your child is 40 lb which is 18 kg. She should have about 800 mg / day which would be 400 mg twice a day. That would only be 5 cc every 12 hours. Double check with your doctor about this. ...Read more

I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and a/b two hours after taking my first of five 750mg levofloxacin dosages my ear has become extremely clogged?

Continue meds: The ear clogging probably has nothing to do with the antibiotic you are taking. The infection will take a couple of days to resolve. The ear should clear up over time. If it doesn't you should see a physician. ...Read more

How long until amoxicillin works? sinus infection, been on meds for 7 days out of a 10 day dose and feel the same If not worse. What should I do?

Sinusitis: You have either been misdiagnosed or inadequately treated. Under medication, you only report Ibuprofen and don't even list amoxicillin. Are you on any meds for allergies? are you congested? do you have facial pressure? any nasal or post-nasal discharge? you have not provided enough information for a meaningful response. If your sx are worsening on amoxicillin, return to your doctor ASAP. ...Read more

Can i take my weekly dose of 12.5mg methotrexate if i feel i'm coming down w/ something or if I have a cold or sinus infection? At what point to i skip

I tend to hold it: I tell my patients that if they are feeling ill, to skip a week or two until they feel better. In general, the joints don't flare if a few doses are missed. Ask your rheumatologist for a plan for when this happens so that you know what to do. ...Read more
