Can a md. Deny medicare-paid hospice end-stage dementia patient physical therapy if patient's family requests it to maintain movement with new law?

Would taking karate lessons improve my self-defense abilities?

Yes: karate will help to develop your strength and balance, and teach you good form so that you don't injure yourself doing a punch or kick. If you are ONLY interested in self defense, then a martial art that is more street oriented may be of more help. For instance, krav maga and Jeet kune do train wearing shoes and not in bare feet. Will children with ADHD truly benefit from behavior therapy?

They can: Well-designed and applied behavioral therapy is as effective in controlling adhd symptoms as are adhd medications. However, both require ongoing use to maintain efficacy. Adhd is a chronic disorder & no current interventions offer a cure, so be sure to use interventions you can sustain over time. With maturity, children may be able to take over aspects of self-monitoring, but structure is key. ...Read more

Bingeing for 27 yrs always in therapy incl cbt, ret, group, analysis, oa, ssris, bupropion, diaphr.Breathing, yoga, meditation, exercise...Is there still hope?

Yes!: Bingeing and eating disorders are like other addictive conditions where one can nevertheless develop strategies to live a full and contented life. My shrink won't tell me what my diagnosis is because she thinks it would have a negative effect on me. Do you think this is a good bias?

Disagreement vs bias: If you are really 18 or older, you should talk to your psychiatrist ("shrink") and ask what your rights are regarding your knowing about your mental health. You may also ask to talk to the office manager or your state medical board. If you are under 18, then you need to talk to your parent or legal guardian. If you life in a hospital or group home, talk to your case worker. I don't see a bias. ...Read more

Growth spurts. Do they really happen or are they just parent's observational bias?

Yes: During the newborn period baby grows ~ 10in the first yr and ~4in the 2nd & 3in/yr until puberty. At that point they may jump up to ~5in/yr for a yr or so. Timing is different from kid to kid and in boys or girls. So in truth, growth both slows down & spurts as part of normal growth & development. ...Read more

Sometimes: Sometimes certain diagnoses are applied to more women vs men, and problems can be missed because our index of suspicion may not be high enough. Some doctors may also assume that women are "hysterical" rather than understanding they may have a complicated health problem. We have a lot to learn. ...Read more

Why is there fat bias when an ors treats a slim patient differently from an obese patient with the same injury.

Perhaps: I can't speak for everyone but justifiably or not some healthcare providers may well feel that at least a part of the injury might have been sustained due to obesity's effect on one's body. It is also likely that it is harder to examine an obese person than a normal-weight one. On the other hand, it may also be your own perception . If you are obese, losing weight can only help. ...Read more

Are damon braces better thn lingual? My dr says theyre more effective, they make smile wider, reduce dark triangles. is he biased?he only does damons

It's a cult: Well refereed studies have shown overall time in treatment to be equivalent to other traditional braces, although chair time may be reduced. Lingual braces require more chair time and more overall treatment length. What is of greatest importance is training, skill, and experience of the practitioner, not the gadget.
