Probably: Leg cramping is due to venous disease (venous incompetence), heavy exercise, prolonged standing/working on legs, low potassium, calcium, magnesium. Shin : Shin splints is an inflammation of the ligaments and surrounding tissue that runs along the bone in the front of your lower leg (the tibia). This is common in marathon runners such as yourself because of the sheer force you are dealing with as you run and pound the pavement. This is what causes the damage. The treatment is what i like to call rice: rest, ice, compression (ace bandage) and elevation. Also take a few weeks off to give yourself time to heal. In addition you can take an over the counter anti-inflammatory medication such as advil (ibuprofen) or Ibuprofen as directed. Give yourself some time, and you will be back to running very soon.. If your problem worsens or persists seek care from your doctor right away. Good luck. ...Read more

I have started jogging regularly and have developed pains in the front of my lower leg which my doctor says are shin splints. He has advised me to rest. Is there anything else I can do?

This will stretch the achilles. There are other achilles stretches too. ...Read more
