Depends on…: Frequency & severity of symptoms: mild, occasional heartburn can be relieved by otc antacids (tums/rolaids/mylanta/gaviscon). How much OTC antacid is safe to take in one day? The bottles all say no more than 2 pills but each dose is different. How much is really too much?

OTC vs. RX: So it varies. The rx dose of even an otc medication is different than what is recommended on the back. If you are going to exceed the dose recommended on the bottle, make sure it is done under direction of a physician.
