My ankle is swollen with pain radiating up calf and a weird lump underneath the outer side of my ankle is this normal since years ago i broke it?
Ankle pain: Without x-ray or MRI it is not easy to come up with a diagnosis. However, 3 years after an ankle fracture it is certainly possible to develop post-traumatic arthritis. The "lump" could be proliferative bone from the fracture. The calf pain could be a secondary compensation for limitation of motion in the joint. You need to be evaluated for problems such as a blood clot which is rare but significant pain and swelling of a lower leg can be serious, especially since you are pregnant. Need more info...: Is ankle swelling bilaterally symmetrical, involving evenly or locally/ regionally? Do you have short of breath? Have you had history of congestive heart failure...? Hotdogs alone at most should just increase salt intake leading to edema in patients with marginal heart function.. One or Both?: If you are having swelling and pain while standing and walking, then you probably have something strained like a tendon or ligament. Also, ther is a good possibility that you have some arthritis. A sudden increase in swelling, redness and pain can often be Gout.
