I sprained my ankle. X-ray shows no broken bones. Heard it pop, bruises and pain. Are there ways to make sure that there are no torn ligaments?
Very frustrated college soccer player Been out with sprained ankle for 6 weeks Now mri says I have 3 small bone bruises and edema Recovery time?
2-4 weeks at least. Bone "bruises" (Periosteal hematoma)
are notorious for prolonged disability. This is a collection of blood (now clotted) UNDER the LINING of the BONE ITSELF!! The CIRCULATION is LIMITED in that area. ACTIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY along with DEEP HEAT and ULTRASOUND treatments is INDICATED and will diminish the time for recovery
Hope this is helpful!

Sprained my ankle a week ago and the only area still swollen is the ankle bone. It is also still very tender. Does it sound like it could be broken?
Yes and no: The mere fact that it’s swollen doesn’t mean that it’s broken but it could be. You have a few ligaments attaching to your lower leg bones (tibia & fibula) and these could also cause the swelling, and indeed a fracture (avulsion). My advice would be to see a doctor. This is the only way you’ll know for sure whether it’s broken or not. ...Read more

If the burning sensation, swelling, bruising are worsening, would suggest seeing your doctor. ...Read more
