One week post ankle sprain. Swelling pain and bruises still there. New symptom is burning sensation. Is this normal? What causes this?

Likely normal : It can take a few weeks before the swelling and bruising completely subside. The burning sensation is likley sign of local nerves being under pressure from the excess blood and swelling in and around the ankle joint. This should also subside as the other symptoms due. See your doctor: An ankle sprain is graded on severity and symptoms. The inability to walk two weeks after an ankle sprain is concerning. Even in mild sprains, you do tear part of the ligament. You : You could also get a stress-xray to see if there is any widening between the tibia and fibula which could represent a ligament injury. I think if your ankle is still swelling it is worth a trip back to your orthopedic surgeon. ...Read more
