Let me explain: I do not know you numbness, could from the scar you have pinching the nerve, sometimes we try injecting this scar with steroid that will for treatment and diagnosis, if it help? Effusion: It sound like you have an effusion in your ankle. Previous trauma? Swelling in the joint or in the surrounding tissues of your ankle? A painless swollen monoarthritis should be investigated w/full exam to see if you have any infection rheumatological sx or diabetes, may progress to polyarthritis. Get into C an ortho: Bing new 2 running U may have started 2fast 2long of runs, & could lead 2 a stress fracture of the talus. Rest in the early stage would B a clue, & also when running if U start out ok initially, the distance 2 pain becomes shorter, eventually it hurts right away. If images R done early, may= neg. My talus' (the 2 "ankle bones") on the right foot are more "salient" than the ones on the left. Can salient talus cause pain?
WHAT???: I have never heard a doctor use the term "salient" to describe the talus. The talus is one bone, not two, and salient means "something that projects outward or upward from its surroundings." so, if your talus is in an abnormal position it could cause pain, but you need to get a better explanation on the cause.
