I sprained my ankle and was told to wear an air cast for the next week. It doesn't fit with my sneaker should I just not wear it at work?
Depends: It depends on how your ankle feels. Early mobilization of ankle sprains reduces the duration of symptoms. If you are able to walk on your ankle with minimal discomfort you might try forgoing the splint. If it is still really painful, you will want some type of support to help you make it through the work day on your feet. Remember to take breaks and elevate and ice your ankle throughout the day. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I broke my Ankle, non-bearing weight bone, They put me in an air cast for 4 weeks&rest for 2 weeks,Ive rested 2 weeks but it still hurts why?
Syndesmosis injury?: You may have a slightly worse sprain than originally thought present with involvement of the thick ligament between the fibula and tibia just above the ankle joint (syndesmosis ligament). Often called a "high" ankle sprain as it involves more than the usual lower located ankle ligaments (ATFL/CFL) that go from the tip of the fibula to the talus and calcaneus (hindfoot). Sprained ankle this evening went to doctors they said its sprained wrapped it in ace bandage n aircast is she to sleep in the air cast?
OK, if necessary.: I would think that the ace bandage should be sufficient as long as the foot(lower leg) is elevated on several pillows. Some times too much compression can be uncomfortable. The decision would be a bit easier if the severity of the sprain was given. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I have a grade 2-3 ankle sprain, I have ace wrap air cast and crutches. Can I sleep in the ace and cast and when does this pain and swelling go away?
Try it without.: You probably don't have to sleep in the cast, but the foot and leg should be elevated. Use several pillows to supply support to the entire leg. The foot needs to be elevated to speed up the de-swelling process. Ice application and swelling reduction should reduce the pain. Try taking Advil (ibuprofen) for faster pain relief. If you need to get up at night, use the crutches. ...Read more
I hurt my ankle 9 weeks ago, pain swelling. Doc said torn ligament put in air cast for 6 weeks. took off, swells immediately and more pain. What's nex?
PT or MRI: The ankle sprain that does not improve often either needs physical therapy or an MRI. PT helps reduce pain, improve motion, strength and function. MRI can uncover all the sources of pain, and at times, changes the treatment options. I am in an air cast for an ankle sprain. All its doing is causing swelling and pain. Could I juat wear and ankle brace instead?
Possibly: If it is just an ankle sprain, and definitely not a fracture immobilization is not required definitively. The main purpose would be to provide support and aid in your function. So if the air cast is not helping, you could certainly try it without anything or go to a soft brace. Check with your doctor first as I don't know the specifics of the injury, but you don't have to immobilize a sprain. ...Read more
I sprained my ankle weeks ago and was put in an air cast. But still now it hurts when I point my toes. The front of the ankle between bones?
I did get my ankle checked out at TOC and they told me I tore all three ligaments, I've been in an air cast and swelling has not gone down., But I still have a sore ankle, sore to the touch sore to certain movements, It happened early July. ?
As your doctor says.: We don't know the size of the chips or the extent of your injury. Sometimes damage to tendons, ligaments and muscles can be more serious than small chips. Your doc knows the answer or will refer to an orthopedist or a podiatrist if needed. Without knowing that, we can't give you a very accurate answer, but it could take 4-6 weeks or more to heal.. ...Read more
