Are you elevating: The ankle above your heart for at least 30 minutes ever 2 hours? Are you able to ice it? Have you had pain and swelling higher up in the leg than you would expect considering the location of the injury? And lastly have you been evaluated by an orthopedist? One concern I have is the development of a deep vein clot due to trauma and decreased movement due to injury. I think you should be rexamined. ...Read more

Possibly: If it is just an ankle sprain, and definitely not a fracture immobilization is not required definitively. The main purpose would be to provide support and aid in your function. So if the air cast is not helping, you could certainly try it without anything or go to a soft brace. Check with your doctor first as I don't know the specifics of the injury, but you don't have to immobilize a sprain. ...Read more
