Sprained ankle 2 weeks ago on crutches for a week and in an air brace swelling not going down at all not weight bearing bone hurting out in side?
Are you elevating: The ankle above your heart for at least 30 minutes ever 2 hours? Are you able to ice it? Have you had pain and swelling higher up in the leg than you would expect considering the location of the injury? And lastly have you been evaluated by an orthopedist? I am in an air cast for an ankle sprain. All its doing is causing swelling and pain. Could I juat wear and ankle brace instead?
Possibly: If it is just an ankle sprain, and definitely not a fracture immobilization is not required definitively. The main purpose would be to provide support and aid in your function. So if the air cast is not helping, you could certainly try it without anything or go to a soft brace. Check with your doctor first as I don't know the specifics of the injury, but you don't have to immobilize a sprain. ...Read more
I have an avulsion ankle fracture and i was put in an air cast and on crutches. How long should I be on the crutches? Is the air cast the right brace?
I'm currently on my honeymoon in France (5+ days left) and I rolled my ankle. history of instability and a lot of pain. Brace isn't helping. Now what?
Ankle pain: Sorry this happened on your honeymoon. I would recommend you stay off of it. That is key, even though I'm sure there's still things u want to do there. We follow the RICE strategy-- rest, ice, compression and elevation... If there's black and blue, tremendous pain or serious swelling this may not be able to wait til u get back to the US. I sprained my ankle over two and a half weeks ago. I'm still having pain and too painful to wear a brace. So what else should I try?
Rest: If your x ray is normal. soft tissue injuries particularly in the ankle take several weeks to resolve. as long as you are continuing to improve I would continue your course of management work on your range of motion and strengthening you should continue to improve and expect resolution by 6 to 8 weeks ...Read more
