Pediatrician answer: Newborns are much more flexible than we expect (head floppy, arms/ legs floppy). They sleep deeply which is why we put them on their backs to sleep so as not to suffocate in their bedding and certainly not in our bed. We physicians usually see the normal newborns every day in the hospital, 2 or so days post discharge, and about 10-14 days of life. Keep all of those appointments. ...Read more

Infant sleep: Hello. Since it is very hard to diagnose specific problems via this site, it is best to review any airway concern you may have with your pediatrician. Try to record the sounds your child sounds like. This can be very helpful for your doctor or a pediatric ENT specialist to confirm the etiology for the sounds. An airway evaluation may also be recommended. ...Read more

6 months baby breathing noisily for about a month especialhen he is breast feeding and sleeping. Should i worry?

Nasal breathing: Infants at 6m are dependent on their nose most of their air exchange. Within a few months their neck growth will permit mouth breathing as older kids can, but until then, any irritants in babies environment cause nasal mucous flow & nasal noise. Dust, fragrance, cleaning fumes, and the like all aggravate the process.Since babies nose is often compressed during feeding it can be make the noise louder. ...Read more

Maybe. Make a movie.: To show the pediatrician what's happening, the parents can make a movie of the shirtless baby's breathing. Show the face, chest, and tummy at the same time, so the doctor can see how everything moves during breathing. A minute into the movie, open the mouth to show how the breathing changes; and then a minute later, close the mouth to show how the breathing changes again. ...Read more

?irritants?: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less. ...Read more
