6 wk old extreme difficulty sleeping. Won't sleep in crib, swing, car, or swaddled. Please help it takes us hours before she finally falls asleep.

It can be tough: Make time approaching sleep time calm and quiet. Don't feed, overstimulate, have tickles and then expect the child to just shut down and go to sleep. Won't happen. Dont respond instantly so they learn to lull themselves to sleep. Let them figure it out without a lot of interference from you. Google My newborn won't sleep. Lots of really good info from multiple sources like Parents.com. ...Read more

1 month old awake for 12 hours, won't sleep - warm bottle, swaddle, dark, quiet, car rides, lay on my chest, singing, rocking... I'm worried...

Sleep: Don't worry. If there was a problem, you baby would show other symptoms like crying, fever, vomit, rash, etc. If the only symptom is you baby is awake, there is nothing you can do. Most infants will naturally fall asleep when they are tired. Most take 2 naps in the day, and 12 to 15 hours at night, but just like adults, they can go off schedule. If 24, go check her out. ...Read more

1 month old awake for 12 hours, won't sleep, tried rocking, singing, swaddling, warm bottle, car ride, lay on my chest, dark, quiet... I'm worried...?

Normal sleep pattern: OK, if your baby had a serious problem, it would have more symptoms than being awake, like cry, fussiness, fever, etc. If the only issue you have is staying awake, your baby is likely just off schedule. That said, but it to sleep around an hour earlier than typical to make up for its lack of sleep. If your baby does not sleep after 24 hours, go see your doc. ...Read more

Difficulty breathing through nose at night? Should I give up my feather pillow?

Difficulty breathing through nose at night? Should I give up my feather pillow?

Possibly, +: It is certainly possible that your nasal passages are reacting to environment at night, such as pillow, down blanket, dusty carpet, mites or other dust particles floating around. It could also be that air is too dry. In fact probably most people mouth breath at night, wake up with very dry mouth, and stuffy nose. So, can try correcting this and that, and see what happens. Try saline nasal spray. ...Read more

2 y/o twins are very fussy, "fight" during feeding&sleeping, get angry when hears "no", my 8 m/o baby can be "spoiled" while playing/watching them?

No, educated!: Younger siblings have been shown to learn much of what they need from older sibs. Twin behaviors are often kind of exaggerated versions of singleton behaviors, and younger sibs have no problem understanding how they are different. Besides, keeping a younger sib away from olders would deprive them of more than half the fun!! ...Read more

Can swaddling help babies sleep?

Can swaddling help babies sleep?

Yes: There perhaps is something about recreating that intrauterine environment which some infants find most comforting--swaddling. Neatly tucking a baby into a pea pod shaped bundle can provide security and warmth unlike anything else. So, once all snuggled in, sleep can not help but to come much more easily. Try it, you will like it...And so will baby! ...Read more

4 month old baby started rolling on stomach in sleep and is sleeping more comfortably. Will he turn head to side? Sometimes hes face down in matress.

Two issues: First, I never worry about whether a baby shifts their position at night when they have the physical ability to role. Second, since SIDS is associated with belly sleeping, I don't put them down on their belly for the first year. Yes they can turn their head, and we belly slept babies up until 1992 when the back to sleep movement began. Since then we have seen a 40% decline in SIDS ...Read more

My baby in sleep makes snoring sounds as if he has difficulty breathing r like some blockage. He breathes normal wen not sleeping.Anything to worry?

Maybe. Make a movie.: To show the pediatrician what's happening, the parents can make a movie of the shirtless baby's breathing. Show the face, chest, and tummy at the same time, so the doctor can see how everything moves during breathing. A minute into the movie, open the mouth to show how the breathing changes; and then a minute later, close the mouth to show how the breathing changes again. ...Read more

Hi, my 2 weeks old baby girl is having a stuffy nosed and cough sometimes. trouble breathing and hard time sleeping. very heartbreaking. tried saline?

?irritants?: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less. ...Read more
