Anaemia: Aplastic anaemia has low HB along with low platelet count. The low platelet count is responsible for bruising. Depends.: Anemia by itself will not cause bruising. However, massive bruising and anemia is suggestive of a bleeding disorder or a lack of platelets in additional to red blood cells from a bone marrow problem. The most importtant issue is to establish why you are anemic. Show your doctor the bruises. If concerning, they will check a platelet count and coagulation tests. You may need to see hematologist. ...Read more

My doctor told me I have anemia. My appetite has completely vanished and I have started to bruise with so much as scratching. Why is this happening?
See a hematologist.: Anemia is a lack of red blood cells, and a great many causes. However, the bruising with simple scratching sound like a very low platelet count (another type of blood cell). That, along with the loss of appetite could be something serious. You should see a blood specialist (hematologist) right away. ...Read more
Not usually: Low platelets or poorly functioning platelets (in blood to help blood to clot) when an injury occurs, can be associated with bruising. Bruises you see are concerning, bur the bruises you feel are more concerning and require an urgent medical visit. Some meds can be associated with bruising, like aspirin. Itch on thigh badly bruised after mild to moderate scratching. Do not have anemia. Bruising was within a few hours and bright red.
I wake up every morning with a half dozen new small bruises and no clue how I got them. Could this be an iron deficiency or anemia? Or something else?
Get evaluated: You need basic screens for vascular fragility, thrombocytopenia, and a clotting factor problem. If you are taking any new medications, including "natural holistic herbal remedies from overseas", stop these if possible. If the bruises are palpable, the situation is especially concerning and a vasculitis workup may be in order. ...Read more
What is causing this? The past few months I have been noticing I bruise very easily. There are bruises all over my legs and I have no clue what they are from. I have not been formally diagnosed but there are suspicions of anemia I have many of the signs.

Bruising is not associated with this type of anemia ...Read more

IV therapy: Women who have severe anemia in pregnancy can benefit from IV iron therapy. It takes a long time for the body to absorb iron in the diet and with pills. And for women such as yourself who may have an iron absorption deficiency, IV iron therapy may be the answer. Talk to your doctor about this. Why would anemia, treated with iron tablets, result in easy bruising of skin for 15 yr old when this bruising did not occur whilst anemic?
Likely unrelated: Anemia involved a low level of functioning cells and it is assumed that low iron levels are limiting the refurbishing of old cells as they wear out and or are built new. Bruising has to do with capillary fragility, platelet function and or chemicals in the clotting cascade. Something else is going on and you need to clarify that with the doc. Bruising is more worisome to me than anemia. ...Read more
