Adding coconut oil to diet helps to treat alzeimer's (according to book by dr. Mary newport). Do any healthtap doctors agree with this treatment?
Uncertain: I disagree with some aspects of recommended treatments such as coffee enemas for detoxification purposes. I find no convincing studies proving benefit. In general, a working liver and healthy kidneys take care of detoxification quite admirably. Talking with people who have undergone treatment and discussing with various physicians and perhaps getting a second opinion would be worthwhile. ...Read more
Neurologist and author, David Perlmutter, claims that gluten causes Alzheimer's. Can someone provide journal references on research that proves this?
Fully disagree: There is NO solid evidence anywhere that gluten causes Alzheimer's disease, and there is NO relationship with Celiac disease and dementia, but Celiac disease does cause a Peripheral Small Fibre Neuropathy. Could following Dr Weil's or Dr Joel Fuhrman's diet reduce symptoms of autoimmune disease? What are pros/cons of each diet?
It's your choice: It's a crash diet and arbitrary "this is good, this is bad" from somebody with no evidence and no qualifications. It's your life and your health. Many people find this sort of thing comforting. If you have actual health issues, get with an evidence-based physician, preferably one who shares your interest in "natural medicine" and pop claims. ...Read more
