Probably mucous: Mucous is a natural lubricant produced by the colon when you are constipated. So i suspect your constipation is the culprit. It is not uncommon to have a change in bowel habits after abdominal surgery. I would suggest you try some daily stool softener or mom for a few weeks, enough that your constipation is gone, and see if the mucous disappears as well. That will cinch the diagnosis. ...Read more

What should I expect in the days and weeks following my lower anterior resection (lar)? Is there anything I should be prepared for?

Many patients have less warning that a bowel movement is coming. Most patients have a low energy level for a few weeks that gets better. Watch for signs of infection (wound drainage, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting). ...Read more

What kind of IV access (regular, picc, midline?) is typically used for abdominal anterior resection surgery?
