Diagnosed with anal fissure, is there any pain relief ointments that can be used? Currently using glycerine suppositories.
Anal fissures no fun: Anal fissures are like paper-cuts. They can bleed, hurt, & recur, particularly with defecation & other activities that increases pelvic pressure. Disorders of anal-rectal function, straining at hard stool, prolonged sitting, heavy lifting, long distance walks/runs should be avoided. If stool softeners, fiber & behavior changes don't cure, can use topical nitrate or diltiazem with anesthetic agent. ...Read more

Shouldn't: As long as the suppository is lubed, and inserted carefully, it shouldn't cause a tear. Doubt it will dry out the rectum either - it's very humid in there, with no exposure to ambient air. Hope this helps! ...Read more
Have tried Preperation H, Anusol, sudocrem nothing works - I need pain relief from anal fissure ASAP! In so much pain! My doc was rubbish?
GI or Procto Dr.: You may need a GI or Procto Dr. The anal fissure, depending on the size of it, needs to heal. Pain meds may be needed and it is recommended to have stools that are regular and at the least NOT constipated to allow the area to heal without stretching as much. A Colo-rectal dr (or proctologist) and/or GI may be better than the rubbish dr. You saw, as the anal fissures are literally a Pain in the A. ...Read more
When u put a glycerin suppository in is it supposed to shoot up your anal canal all the way up through the intestines etc or do u pull it out?
Since glycerin suppository cause anal stimulation, could this cause bacteria to enter blood stream?
Bacteremia: Transient bacteria in the blood occur regularly, with brushing of teeth, sex, straining at stool, and so on. It is entirely possible that use of suppositories may do this as well, but it is seldom clinically relevant. That is why we have an immune system which will almost always rapidly clear these organisms and eliminate potential for infection. ...Read more

Part of my anus sphincter is torn + you can see it outside the anus. It hurts + bleeds. Anal fissure? I am pregnant - labour make worse? Had for 7yrs.
Not necessarily: You should have this discussion with your provider. You need to find out if it is a fissure or a disruption in the anal sphincter. If you have a tear into the anal sphincter when you deliver, it might make the situation a little worse if you have a pre-existing problem. Labor does not necessarily make it worse, however. See your provider and have this discussion. ...Read more
