Anafranil For Ocd
I am on anafranil for OCD but its causing me memory problems. Is there anything i can take like memory booster would be useful for me.
Anafranil: Anafranil can be very helpful for ocd, but does have strong anticholinergic effects which can interfere with memory and other cognitive functioning. Please discuss your experiences with your psychiatrist, so that they can be addressed. Perhaps your dose could be decreased to see if it still controls symptoms and your memory improves. If not, there are other options for ocd. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

250mg/day: Maximum recommended daily dose is 250mg, but some psychiatrist may push a bit further. If at 250mg/day and symptoms not controlled, pushing higher dose is not likely to benefit. Adding other medication, change of meds, or combining with cognitive/behavioral therapy probably is a better way to go then pushing too much of one drug--just my humble opinion. Consult your doc. Best of luck to you. ...Read more

Why anafranil causes memory problems and i can stop taking it because its the only medicine that worked for my ocd.
Check a blood level: Make sure that you get an Anafranil blood level checked. If the blood level is too high it can certainly cause memory problems. By no means should you stop it. It is very difficult to find a medication that is effective in ocd. Work with your psychiatrist on this issue. If your psychiatrist thinks that the memory difficulties are being caused by anticholinergic effects of the Anafranil then he or she may be willing to give you a trial on a medication to reverse that. Best wishes. ...Read more
