What is the maximum anafranil (clomipramine) dosage for OCD resistant patients?

What is the maximum anafranil (clomipramine) dosage for OCD resistant patients?

250mg/day: Maximum recommended daily dose is 250mg, but some psychiatrist may push a bit further. If at 250mg/day and symptoms not controlled, pushing higher dose is not likely to benefit. Adding other medication, change of meds, or combining with cognitive/behavioral therapy probably is a better way to go then pushing too much of one drug--just my humble opinion. Consult your doc. Best of luck to you. ...Read more

I stopped taking my anafranil (clomipramine) it was 25mg only and I am feeling so depressed it's horrible . Can it be from stopping the med?

It could be...: You don't say how you felt on the Anafranil (clomipramine) and how come you went off it, but if it had been helping you, even at such a low dose, it is very possible that you are feeling a big difference now that you stopped it. Please discuss this with your dr, you may want to go back on it if it was really so helpful to you. Sometimes one does not realize how much a med is doing until they go off it.... ...Read more

I have dermatophagia, was given anafranil/clompramine. I could not tolerate the a/e so I stopped it after 3 day. My country do not hav support grp.?

Dermatophagia: Dermatophagia (compulsive picking at & biting one's skin or nails) is related to ocd. It can be very debilitating. Anafranil (clomipramine) is an older antidepressant with strong anti-ocd activity. It can also bring sedation and other side effects. Perhaps the initial dose was too strong for you, and adjustments are needed.. I hope you'll talk with your doctor about this -- and consider cognitive therapy also. ...Read more

How many days after i stop taking 12.5mg of anafranil (clomipramine) can I safely breastfeed? My baby is 1mo old is it too late to start breastfeeding?

Safely: As long as you take anafranil (clomipramine), (clomipramine) it will be expressed in your breastmilk. There have only been a few studies of breastfeeding mothers on Anafranil (clomipramine) and their infants. In one of the studies, the babies were followed for 2 years and no untoward effects on growth or development were detected. The babies' blood was tested for the presence of anafranil (clomipramine). It was detected, but in low doses. ...Read more

Yesterday i had a pretty rough massage and i discontinued 25mg of anafranil (clomipramine) i'm getting these electric shock feeling all over is this dangerous? What

See your doctor.: Some people may experience withdrawal from meds including Anafranil (clomipramine) even at that low dose. I am not sure if your physician is cross-tapering you to an ssri. I assume you are being treated for ocd. If you began an ssri, then the symptoms should dissipate somewhat. If you had a thai massage w/ passive stretching, then you could have irritated nerves such as the sciatic one down the back of your leg. ...Read more

Is Prozac (fluoxetine) similar to anafranil.Because i was on anafranil and it was ok but now i'm taking prozac (fluoxetine).Would Prozac (fluoxetine) work for me too?

Is Prozac (fluoxetine) similar to anafranil.Because i was on anafranil and it was ok but now i'm taking prozac (fluoxetine).Would Prozac (fluoxetine) work for me too?

Prozac (fluoxetine) vs Anafranil: You wrote previously about taking Anafranil for ocd, and complained of memory problems that you thought were related to anafranil. Prozac (fluoxetine) is in a different class, yet affects serotonin reuptake like Anafranil did -- and with less sedation. Ultimately you may need a higher dose of prozac, (fluoxetine) though. Please work closely with your psychiatrist so that your dose can be optimized accordingly. ...Read more

Has anyone heard of anafranil (clomipramine)?

Has anyone heard of anafranil (clomipramine)?

Yes...: Anafranil is a tricyclic antidepressant that because of one slight change in its chemical structure, acts on serotonin instead of norepinephrine. This is what makes it so helpful for ocd. It is considered the Next Choice after the ssri's. Some people respond better to Anafranil than to the ssri's, and some people respond the other way around. The generic name is clomipramine. ...Read more
