What is the difference between the anachoice screen and the ANA screen, ifa? The first one came back positve, but the second came back negative.

What is the difference between the anachoice screen and the ANA screen, ifa? The first one came back positve, but the second came back negative.

IFA better: For a screen the ifa is much better. It is the gold standard. The ANA choice is not a screening test and should not be offered as a screening test. Your question is somewhat counter intuitive. The ifa is a better test and if choice is positive - it can be subseted into 12 antigens and the lab can tell you. I would follow your test results with ANA subsets per your rheumatologist. ...Read more

What is the difference between the anachoice screen and the ANA screen, ifa? The first one came back positve, but the second came back negative.

Diff. lab techniques: Different labs have different ANA tests, which is a test for antibodies a person makes that attach to his own body's tissues, that end up causing auto-immune disease. Modern tests use "reflex" or "cascade" techniques, meaning one test is done first, and then if positive, another test is done, and then if positive again, a third test is done. Tests have various "positive" ranges (gets complicated). ...Read more

I took a PG test & waited the 3 min & nothing was showing so I lifted it and pee slip into the screen & showed neg. Are the results false??

PG test: I took a PG test & waited the 3 min & nothing was showing so I lifted it and pee slip into the screen & showed neg. Are the results false?? Depends on which test you are using. How early might you be in PG. When does the test say it will turn positive. I would just repeat tomorrow and follow directions exactly. I am not certain what you mean " by pee slip into the screen"? ...Read more

I been on methadone maint. fr 17 yrs.I went from120 mg to 60 mg over few months.now drug screen shows neg methadone and low metabolite.i take daily?

It happens: The presence of metabolite in urine is considered more reliable than methadone itself especially at lower doses. While the vast majority of patients will still have methadone detectable in urine after 24HRS, the situation you describe can happen. You can help improve reliability of urine results by avoiding coffee or excess water consumption before testing so that the sample is not dilute. ...Read more

ABO Type&Screen, does "negative" antibodies mean NO antibodies at all or no UNexpected antibodies for the reported blood type?

ABO Type&Screen, does "negative" antibodies mean NO antibodies at all or no UNexpected antibodies for the reported blood type?

No unexpected ones: It means no antibodies against the red cells of the cross match. E.g., if you have type A blood, you would have anti-B antibodies as a matter of course. The potential donor blood is type A, but you also have no antibodies against any of the other antigens (outside of ABO system) which mY be found on red blood cells. ...Read more

If I took a 5mg of Percocet at 12:00am on Saturday and had a urine drug screen on Wednesday should the test be negative for drug detection?

If I took a 5mg of Percocet at 12:00am on Saturday and had a urine drug screen on Wednesday should the test be negative for drug detection?

Percocet half-life: Plasma half life is 3-5 h (half that of morphine). It takes approximately 6 half lives for a drug to be eliminated from your system. 5*6/24= 1.25 days. The oxycodone will stay in your system for about 1.25 days. Due to its short half-life, Percocet doesn’t stay in the urine long. You will pass the test, but Percocet is very addictive drug. You should talk to your PCP for more information. ...Read more

27wkspreg Rh negPositive antibody screen today was neg a month ago had a prev ectopic and chem but had shot after What does this mean for this preg?

Rh factors: If your "shot" after your ectopic pregnancy was Rh immune globulin , which in Rh negative women is protective against problems from Rh disease in future pregnancies, the chance of a problem with this pregnancy is minimal. If you have had other pregnancies prior to your ectopic without Rh immune globulin given, continued testing is appropriate. ...Read more

Fetal medicine docs. With a negative verify and sequnom result for downs test would u still recommend amnio for 1in20 risk from routine screen blood?

Fetal medicine docs. With a negative verify and sequnom result for downs test would u still recommend amnio for 1in20 risk from routine screen blood?

NO.: Maternit21 is much more accurate than the ultrasound-dependent serum analyte screening. If the former is reassuring for your risk to have a baby with down syndrome then the latter is irrelevant. Disregard the serum screening and decide about amniocentesis on the basis of the cell free fetal dna analysis. Most couples accept a <1% risk of down syndrome without amniocentesis. Best of luck. ...Read more

My drug screen results were negative, why? I take percocet and ativan (lorazepam) on a daily basis, my screen results did not find them in my system. Knowing that i take my meds daily, i cannot understand why they did not show.

My drug screen results were negative, why? I take percocet and ativan (lorazepam) on a daily basis, my screen results did not find them in my system. Knowing that i take my meds daily, i cannot understand why they did not show.

Many possiblereasons: Oxycodone may not show up on a drug screen unless the screen is specifically geared to that drug. Ativan (lorazepam) should show up, but it depends on the dose. If you are on a low dose (0.5 mg a day) it may be negative. Also, if you are drinking large amounts of water, it dilutes your urine to where drugs may be below the detection limit of the test. ...Read more

Infectious : Infectious mononucleosis is caused by the epstein-barr virus (ebv) which is a member of the human herpes virus family (like chicken pox). Many people exposed to ebv do not develop infectious mononucleosis, but will have mild symptoms or no illness at all. In fact, 85%-90% of adults aged 40 show evidence of ebv infection at some point by having lasting antibodies detected with a blood test. There may be a small subset of folks that don't develop lasting antibodies or may have dormant virus, but this is rare. When we test for ebv, we test for evidence of current infection and of previous infection. You may have tested negative for current infection which is good - you shouldn't have a current infection of ebv if you have had it before. You may or may not have been tested for evidence of previous infection. You may want to speak with your doctor about what tests were done which might clear up any confusion. I hope this helps! ...Read more

What would a false negative and a false positive mean on an STD screen test?

What would a false negative and a false positive mean on an STD screen test?

See below: False negative & false positive results are testing errors (meaning the test results were wrong). In this case... A "false negative" result means that despite the test being negative, the person actually does have the infection. A "false positive" result means that a positive test result occurred in someone who really did not have the infection. ...Read more

I take vicodin every day for hip pain my dr did a drug screen on me today (without me knowing) and it came back neg how is that possible?

A lot of variables: Urine drug screens depend upon alot of different variables. How often you are taking the medication. When the last dose of the medication was prior to the test. The dose of the medication. How fast your body metabolizes the medication. What type of test was used, a screening assay or a gc/ms confirmation test. What the lower limit cut of the medication the lab uses can all alter a test. ...Read more
