Ana W Reflex Titer Blood Test
My teen had ANA test but now dr is saying we need a "reflex titer" blood test. What is it and does that mean ANA positive?
Suggestive of auto-: Immune disorder. A high concentration of anti-nuclear antibody is one indicator or auto-immune disease. Titer is one expression for concentration of a particular antibody. An "ana" is a blood test used to screen a person for the possibility of several autoimmune diseases. It is important to remember that this is a screening test and a positive result only indicates more testing may be warranted. No blood test is perfect, and getting to a diagnosis is usually much more complex than drawing blood and looking at a number ...Read more
What does a variation in results for ANA blood test in the past all were negative what does it mean if the titer is 1:80 and a speckled pattern?
Can Diltiazem cause a lupus titer of 1:320? I also have positive ana and homogeneous pattern. All other blood test were normal.
Ana positive: Yes it could be related to the meds, Ana us kind of too high, needs to get more specific testing to completely clear the possibility
I just got a blood test. I have High AST & ALT levels, high Bilrubin, a High CK total, and a positive ANA titer. Can you please help me identify this?
You need a workup: You're a young man and if you exercise and feel well, I'm not concerned about the CK. Around 1 person in 4 has a positive ANA, usually low titer. Your liver tests will be repeated after 2 weeks off alcohol / meds if applicable; if still up, you'll be screened for hepatitis B and C, Wilson's, hemochromatosis and autoimmune hepatitis. Your body may simply be asking for exercise & better eating.See 1 more doctor answer

Will amoxicillian effect the results of an ANA blood test? I just got done w/ a ten day course (500 mg, 3x a day) & scheduled for blood work tomorrow
Yes: An ANA is a test used to see essentially if the immune system has been activated. However, there are mutiple other tests for autoimmune diseases which are numerous and difficult to explain in this short space. Talk with your doctor.
Less likely: This means that your problem is less likely to be from an autoimmune disease but does not totally rule it out. The diagnosis of a disease is based on the clinical features and the lab test is used mainly to confirm it.
Can you have ANA come up posative if you have a cold or a virus on the day you have your blood test?
What else could cause hashimitos type symptoms? When hashimitos has been ruled out by thyroid blood test and ANA blood test?
The symptoms: The symptoms of hashimoto's can be seen with any number of conditions. We would need to know what exact symptoms that you are having to best comment.
Does stress cause ANA weak positive blood test cause I got a weak positive does it mean I will get an autoamune illness later in life?
Weak positive?: What blood test are you referring to? Sometimes doctors test for ANA (antinuclear antibody), and results can be confusing. The "weak positive" can be a false one, and may not indicate any autoimmune illness at all. Positive ANA is fairly common, even in healthy people -- 20% of women, and 7% of men! Http://tinyurl. Autoimmune: ANA test detects antinuclear antibodies in your blood. Your immune system normally makes antibodies to help you fight infection. Antinuclear antibodies often attack your body's own tissues, each cell's nucleus. Positive ANA test indicates that your immune system is misdirected attacking your own cells. Some people have positive ANA tests even when they're healthy. Ordered if lupus ra, scleroderma.
Caution: By itself, the ANA means very little. It is only a useful test if the clinical picture suggests an autoimmune disease such as lupus. However, there are a plethora of reasons the ANA may be positive. Too often, it is mistakenly done as a screening test for generalized symptoms such fatigue or body aches.
Tests: An ANA is an anti nuclear antibody test. It is often the fist step in trying to diagnose lupus or a vasculitis. An anca is an anti nuclear cytoplasmic antibody test. There are two types p-anca and c-anca both used to diagnose vasculitic conditions (poly-arteritis nodosa and wegener's granulomatosis, respectively). They are often ordered and part of larger panels to work up rule out conditions.See 1 more doctor answer
Ana pattern: ANA patterns are often not reliable in diagnosing disease in practice. Pattern detection accuracy can also vary between different labs. Ultimately whatever results of an ANA that one obtains has to be interpreted in context of the patients symptoms and history.See 2 more doctor answers
Depends on the lab: Different labs have different normal ranges. This should be printed on the results report.
