Pain RUQ-x6mos- dr says gall bladder but HIDA, CBC, CMP, lipase, amalyse, EGD and abdom US 6m ago nml- can this pancreatic cancer? 30 yo. No Weight loss

No...Second opinion: Not likely to be pancreatic cancer given the imaging you've had so far. There is a blood test you can get that you that might be reassuring. I suggest a second opinion to evaluate for something more usual such as sphincter dysfunction. In the meantime avoid foods that induce symptoms ...Read more

Pancreatic amylase levels over 2400 hayley’s symptoms, frequency between the attacks shorter. Hayley's journey@ http://childrenlivinginpain. Com/?

What is the?: Hereditary pancreatitis is a real problem. Related to the same genes as in cystic fibrosis. Ultimately structural changes in the pancreas lead to daily pain without enzyme rise. Avoid narcotics. See about celiac plexus block. If enzymes still go up, consider non-encapsulated pancreatic enzymes (high- dose) with every meal (and acid suppression) to minimize pain. Hope this helps. ...Read more

What to do if I have high levels of amylase what does that mean?

What to do if I have high levels of amylase what does that mean?

How do you FEEL?: About 1% of healthy folks have their amylase tagged with an immunoglobulin that prevents it from being lost via the kidney like other folks. This is nothing to worry about. If you feel okay, this is probably the explanation. ...Read more

My amylase enzyme was only 28 IU/l what could be making that so low?

Not of any concern: You can ignore this as it does not mean anything medically important. We only worry if the Amylase is high which would reflect damage to the pancreas. In your case we can say that your pancreas is very healthy. I do not even know why they checked it in the first place! ...Read more

What are amylase my son is 9yrs nold and his amylase was 120 what does this mean

What are amylase my son is 9yrs nold and his amylase was 120 what does this mean

Amylase: Amylase is a enzyme that is found in the body, it's main function is to aid in digestion. It is often ordered if a problem (mainly inflammation) is suspected in the pancreas, if your son had abdominal pain, nausea, and/or vomiting then this test was likely ordered with many other tests including an abdominal ultrasound.
I can not tell you what the 120 signifies, mainly due to the fact that each lab has it's own reference range for every test done. However I can say this falls in the normal range for the lab I use here in my office.
The ordering doctor will be able to give you the exact reason why the test was ordered, the reference range of the amylase, and what your son's level means.
Just based on your post and no other info. Given it sounds like your son is probably just fine, and no major problems were detected. ...Read more

Amylase elevated -250. Lipase is normal. What causes this?? Should I be concerned?

Any symptoms?: Why were these tests ordered? There are many causes of elevated amylase and it would require in person evaluation to ascertain the cause. You may consult this site for information on this topic: https://medlineplus. Gov/ency/article/003464.htm
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

What are conditions responsible for high levels of serum amylase?

What are conditions responsible for high levels of serum amylase?

High amylase: In pancreatitis amylase and lipase are both elevated more than three times the normal level, but amylase can be elevated without having pancreatitis. It can be elevated in cholicystitis, kidney failure, tumors of pancreas, salivary glands, prostate, lung and ovaries. It may be be elevated after ERCP procedure, and some medications can cause elevation of amylase and very high triglycerides can cause pancre. ...Read more

What % of chronic or acute pancreatitis shows elevated Lipase or Amylase?

Acute tests: A 1998 study found that 100% of patients with acute pancreatitis had an elevated lipase, and 95% had an elevated amylase directly upon admission to the hospital. As their hospitalization continued, those values dropped off and so the tests would be less useful for diagnosis. ...Read more

Why do they test the fluid samples from a thoracentesis for amylase and glucose?

Why do they test the fluid samples from a thoracentesis for amylase and glucose?

Evaluate cause: A thoracentesis involves removing fluid from the pleural cavity. Laboratory values obtained from the fluid may enable a doctor to determine the cause of the fluid accumulation. Amylase present in the fluid could mean either pancreatitis or, more rarely, esophageal perforation. Glucose<40mg/dl, possible infection, >40mg/dl probably not infectious. ...Read more

Can you list the pathological conditions responsible for high levels of serum amylase?

Sure: Are the mechanisms okay? If you feel well, usually your amylase is just tagged with an immunoglobulin that slows its clearance. If your kidneys aren't working well, you don't lose it fast enough. If your pancreas is even a little bit hurt, or your salivary glands, you get some in your bloodstream. Even morphine can make this happen. How do you FEEL? ...Read more

My total bilirubin (1.5 mg/dl) and amylase level (126u/l) are higher. They are higher for the past 5 years, what might be happening?

May be normal: Your bilirubin result is within normal limits. Depending on the lab that did amylase, that may also be within normal limits. All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and your doctor is the best one to do that. See these sites for info.

I was informed by my doc that high lipase and a normal-ranged amylase together is insignificant (=nothing wrong). So having high lipase is fine?

It depends: How do you FEEL? Lipase is a test fraught with pitfalls in its performance, and reference ranges are set for most lab tests so that several percent of healthies fall outside on either end. If you have serious abdominal pain and a lesion in your pancreas, I'd worry that your low amylase is an error. If you feel well, I'd forget the lipase. ...Read more

No pain, amylase back in May was 184, lipase was 66 (range was until 60 the highest, amylase range is 110 the highest). Pancreas problems or what?

Not likely: It sounds like you had some issues, maybe abdominal pain sometime in May, when you had your pancreatic enzymes checked, but you no longer have pain now. Based on the minimal elevation of your enzymes even in May I doubt their origin was pancreatic even then. ...Read more
