Amoxicillin Vs Zithromax
Child has strep throat allergic to omincef and amoxicillin was given Zithromax but it doesn't seem to be helping what R other antiobiotics that help?
Abx for Strep throat: Zithromax is an excellent alternative for Strep infection in those allergic to penicillin, but it generally takes a little more time to see improvement. If symptoms are not responding after 3-4 days of azithromycin treatment, clindamycin is an alternative (more potential side effects). ...Read more
Azithromycin (zithromax, azithrocin, zmax, azin) is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. Tired. Feverish. Fatigue. Weakness. Sore throat. these are the symptoms. It's been 3 weeks. Nothing improved…I've tried Zithromax, amoxicillin, etc…?
Not bacterial: Clearly no bacterial infection is the cause of these symptoms. Stop trying antibiotics; they won't help. See a doctor if your symptoms continue or you remain concerned. ...Read more
Yes: Azithromycin is commonly used, even during pregnancy, for sinusitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, as well as other indications, and is the drug of choice for chlamydia. Because of it's once daily dosing, patient compliance is much better. Another benefit is that vaginal yeast infections are far less common after a z-pack than after a course of a penicillin or a cephalosporin. ...Read more
Mi have been diagnosed with PID will amoxycillin and zithromax be enough combination to cure pid? Or will i need different antibiotics?
Likely: Though the regimen you were prescribed isn't on the cdc's recommended list for outpatient treatment of pid, it likely will work. Typically outpatient treatment involves an intramuscular injection of Ceftriaxone and Azithromycin (zithromax). The Amoxicillin should provide coverage even if it isn't first line. If you have any question about your treatment, you can consult a clinic or md. ...Read more
Throat: A physician might decide on obtaining a throat culture and sensitivity to see if your bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic that was currently prescribed. He may also decide to switch antibiotics to see if the bacteria is susceptible to another medicine. It would be advised to proceed under the guidance of a physician. Have a great day. ...Read more

See below: Most cases of bronchitis are caused by respiratory viruses that do not respond to antibiotics. Bacterial bronchitis is usually caused by strep. Pneumoniae, hemophilus sp. And moraxella sp. I am on my 4th day of azithromycin. I am now experiencing UTI symptoms. Can I take amoxicillin with this?
Don't take amox: You definitely should not self-treat with amoxicillin. First, amoxicillin isn't usually a good drug for UTI. Second, it may not be UTI; azithromycin maybe triggered a yeast infection, which amox could worsen. Third, depending on why azithro was prescribed, e.g. for chlamydia or other STD, maybe that's the cause of the apparent UTI symptoms. Contact your doctor and take it from there. Good luck! ...Read more

Was on 10 days amoxicillin, now received 3 days azithromycin for my sinus infection. Have not started azithromycin yet, becaus i feel better now, should I take it or will my infection go away on own?
Is Cipro (ciprofloxacin) penicillin-based? Many in my safari group took it but I was given azithromycin. Is it because I'm allergic to Amoxicillin?
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is a 5-fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic.
Amoxicilin, as you already know, is a penicillin antibiotic.
These are three different classes of antibiotic. Penicillin/amoxicillin allergy is unlikely to have been the reason for receiving azithromycin in place of ciprofloxacin (Cipro). ...Read more
Neither: Usually a vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis - bv) is better treated with an antibiotic with anaerobic coverage (common vaginal bacteria). Flagyl (metronidazole) or Clindamycin in pill or vaginal cream form works better. Azithromycin is more commonly used to treat chlamydia. Amoxicillin is better for streptococcus or gram positive bacteria. I hope that helps. Take care. ...Read more

Same dosage as adult of azithromycin in pneumonia for a 6 year old weight 25 kg and also add 375 mg augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 3x1 ? is there a risk of over dosage?
Dose based on weight: In pediatrics, med dosing is usually based on weight. For a simple pneumonia, the Azithromycin dose for 25 kg child would be half the adult dose: 250 mg for 1 day, then by 125 mg daily for 4 more days. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) dosing would also depend on weight and the specific illness being treated. Those 2 medications act differently and don't interact--as long as each dose is appropriate, you should be ok. ...Read more
Can I use same dosage of azithromycin in pneumonia for a 6 year old weight 25 kg and also add 375 mg augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 3x1 ? is there a risk of over dosage?
OD on antibiotics: There have been recent reports to suggest that for community acquired pneumonia, a single primary line of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin is sufficient. Azithromycin, preferred for its shorter duration has limited efficacy. Adding Augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) which has another chemical added to Amoxicillin, to another antibiotic is thus not generally advised, unless your doctor determines resistance or other causes ...Read more
I have given my son two antibiotics , Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 7.5mls, and after 5hrs I gave azithromycin 5mls..4yrs with severe Tonsilitis how dangerous is this?
Tonsillitis: Why did your pediatrician prescribe two antibiotics? This is not typical or advised. Do not over does the child. Call your doctor and clarify this. For typical strep or staph tonsillitis, 7-10 days of Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) every 12 to 8 hrs depending on the dose is enough. I don't see any benefit to adding Zithromax. Over use of antibiotics is harmful in the short and long run. ...Read more
STI tests negative. What else could cause PID? Would amoxicillin, 1g azithromycin and Metronidazole be effective?
Any bacteria will do: It doesn't have to be a sexually transmitted bacteria to cause PID as any bacteria that is not indigenous to the vagina that migrates into the Fallopian tubes can cause a Salpingitis (Tubal infection) aka PID. This most often occurs during intercourse, but even tuberculosis can infect the Fallopian tubes and cause PID. Once the organism is cultured the correct antibiotic(s) can be given. ...Read more
