Doctor insights on:
Is it ok to take amoxicillin after the expiry date? It's for a toothache. On the bottle it says 2011 just wondering if it is ok to use?
See dentist/MD: It is likely that a medication can still have potency beyond its expiration date depending on how it has been stored and the particular medication, but caution: it is unwise to self diagnose and medicate even if within it's expiry date. Let a dentist or md evaluate and guide you as to the problem and proper treatment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I was to take 1 Amoxicillin 500MG 4 my toothache every 6hrs,misread & took 1cap every 1hr,already took 4 within 4hrs,what should I do?
Nothing immediately: Amoxicillin is a fairly safe medicine. I do not think it can cause you any harm. It can occasionally cause diarrhea but that is self limiting, if at all.So be careful from here on and resume taking medicine tomorrow, unless your tooth problem is resolved ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Foolish: First, not all toothaches are the result of an infection & therefore, it might not do anything to resolve your pain. Secondly, even if there is an infection present, an antibiotic will only tend to contain the infection unless the actual source of the infection is also treated & removed. So, you can take self prescribed antibiotics & wait & hope, or...you can see a dentist which u will need anyway ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I have an toothache can I take amoxicillin for 7 days to kill the infection... how long do it takes to start working?
Self Medication: Please do not self medicate yourself. The antibiotics will not solve your problem, which is a rotten tooth. There is absolutely no substitute for proper dental care. Even if the swelling goes down with the meds, it will come back quickly and in the end you will not only suffer more, but you will still need to see a dentist. Please call for an appointment. Pills do not fix teeth or gums. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a toothache It's the second tooth before the wisdom tooth and it started hurting this morning and I have 14 amoxicillin can I use those 2 stop?
No: Antibiotics do not stop the process involved in dental pain from coming back. If you take antibiotics, you only delay the problem or slow it down if it's related to the gums and bone. Dental decay inside a tooth is not affected at all by antibiotics. See your dentists ASAP for treatment of the cause. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
If amoxicillin 500mg helped my toothache to almost non existent do I still need a root canal? If so would laser dentistry be the best option
Still need RCT: Antibiotics are only a short term solution. They will temporarily reduce the infection, but unless the source of the infection (the nerve of the tooth) is treated with a root canal procedure the infection will not go away. Some endodontists use lasers, some do not. Both ways work fine. However the longer you wait to treat the tooth the smaller the odds of success. So don't wait. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
