Im coughing real blood and I've got chest pain. No fever, but constant cough (big smoker). Will amoxicillin take care of it?
My 6mnth old has an ear infection and was prescribed amoxil (amoxicillin). His fever is gone and he seems to be feeling a bit better. Should i hold off on the rx?
Give it all: Treatment times were developed by taking repeated samples of pus from infected ears & seeing how long it took to kill the germ. The duration of treatment depends on the medication.Stopping after the fever subsides can leave a few germs behind that re-start the infection & may lead to abx resistance.Give it all or expect pbs. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Kids can have a throat infection virus and carry strep at the same time. This slows improvement.Time delay before treatment also means there will be a slower response. The lack of fever is a good sign.I'd call your docs office for guidance ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sore throat, headache, neck pain, malaise, & fatigue x15 days. Neg. strep test, no fever. Taking amoxicillin w/no help. Possible causes?
Needs work-up: For symptoms that are ongoing like that- I think of several possibilities. One would be mono- and that's an easy one (mono-spot test). Not sure if you have risk factors for HIV but I would test you for that too. Other viruses such as enterovirus or adenovirus could cause these symptoms, but usually not this long. REST may help you. Would check back with doc prescribing Amoxicillin-probably stop it ...Read more
Getting fevers intermittently for last one month did a course of amoxicillin & mextra. For few days everything remains fine then suddenly start fever?
FUO: You have a fever of undetermined origin. This is the topic of numerous articles, chapters and books. Most are non-infectious, but for those that respond, as yours, to antibiotics, one must be concerned about a heart valve infection, a hidden abscess, and so on. You should see an Infectious Diseases specialist ASAP. Do not neglect this. Hopefully this will be benign but has potential to be fatal. ...Read more
