Amoxicillin Dose For Kennel Cough
I'm coughing real blood and I've got chest pain. No fever, but constant cough (big smoker). Will amoxicillin take care of it?
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Supposed to take amoxicillin dose every 8 hours. What happens if you miss one dose by three hours?
Not much: If you miss a dose of antibiotic or take one late, just get back on the regular schedule prescribed by your doctor, stay on it, and you should be ok. Doses are timed to keep the amount of drug in your system at an optimal level to do what the drug is intended to do--in the case of antibiotics, they weaken or kill bacteria. A single missed dose lets the level get too low but is correctable. ...Read more

I've been on amoxicillin for a week for bronchitis and I forgot my dose this morning and I took it soon after but now I have a cough/wheezing?
Bronchitis: Cough and wheezing can easily be a sign or symptom of bronchitis. It is unlikely that the Amoxicillin is causing the call although occasionally allergy to the drug can cause wheezing. If your wheezing continues you should contact your doctor and probably undergo a chest x-ray. ...Read more

Yes: Amoxicillin should be compatible with otc cough meds. May take a few days to see improvement. Honey has been shown to be equally effective as dextromethorphin in suppressing cough. Make sure that otc is not just Guaifenesin which only thins mucous. Could do dextromethorphin and honey together. Could go to Codeine syrup if cough dry. Don't stop cough completely if mucous coming to clear lung. ...Read more

Chest congestion with cough. Week's dose of augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) and vasican didn't help. Been a month, able to breathe better but phlgem persists. Possibilities?
Cough: Could've been viral to begin with and this is now just a post-viral cough. If it was pneumonia, sometimes the cough can last for weeks afterward. It may be a new process - infection has cleared, but you got a new viral illness. Lots of possibilities. It's reassuring if there's no fever and breathing has improved. ...Read more

I am suffering frm severe cold cough my senses like smelling, hearing and taste r almost lost, I am taking amoxicillin but no use what should I do?
Respiratory Illness: Not uncommon to have your senses of taste, smell, and hearing be altered when you have an infection. Takes time for the antibiotics to work and sometimes it is actually a virus causing the symptoms so the antibiotics don't really help with that. Over the counter decongestants may help but really the best medicine for the senses/ symptoms is time. ...Read more

Doctor prescribed Cefodox (cefpodoxim) for a cough and said it was safer than amoxicillin. I'm 2 weeks pregnant. Is it really safer than amoxicillin?
Silly comment: The most dangerous time in pregnancy is between weeks 4-12 when the organs are being laid down. Most colds are viral and antibiotics are useless for them anyhow. Always try to take the least broad spectrum antibiotic for the shortest possible time and surely while you are pregnant. Best of luck!! ...Read more

Viral?: If your cough developed during or just after an upper respiratory tract infection, (URI) it is likely non-infectious so an antibiotic may not be helpful. Typically, these coughs are bronchospastic and you may need a bronchodilator inhaler and perhaps a steroid inhaler. These coughs can occur with a viral URI or bacterial and may last for many weeks. Inhalers may increase your comfort. ...Read more
