Is amoxicillin good for a bad cough and bacterial infection in my lungs and/or chest?, had cough for 2 weeks, on amoxicillin for 2 days now.

No: A bacterial infection in the lungs would be pneumonia. Amoxicillin would not be a good choice for this because many of the bacteria that cause pneumonia are resistant to amoxicillin. A quinolone like levoquin, a tetracycline like Doxycycline or a combination of a cephalosporin like vantin or Ceftin (cefuroxime) plus zithromax would all be effective for community acquired bacterial infection. ...Read more

15mo daughter has rash on chest & back, neck & slightly on her face. She is on amoxicillin for an ear infection started Friday. Drug reaction or virus?

Difficult to answer: It's sooooo hard to say anything about rashes without seeing them. If it looks like mosquito bites and they come and go rapidly, then likely hives and that is usually a drug reaction. If a fine tiny dots, fine rash that feels like sandpaper, more likely tillness. If in doubt, stop by your doctor's office and let them peek at it to tell the difference. ...Read more

If temp is >40.5C: Contact your doctor if it doesn't respond to another dose of Panadol (acetaminophen) and cool compresses within 30 minutes. Fever is the body's way of fighting infection, and in it self is not harmful at lower numbers except your child will feel uncomfortable and is more likely to get dehydrated if not drinking enough fluids.
