Cough for 3 months now,Doc has given me Azithromycin, promethazine, benzonotate,. currently taking amoxycilin& albuterolinhaler, still [email protected]?
? reflux: Often an under recognized cause of cough is GERD: gastroesophageal reflux disease. Stomach contents reflux up the esophagus and can irritate the throat, stimulating cough. OTC Pepcid works for this. Most often, a prolonged cough is multifactorial so the inhaler may be helping. Other strategies that often work are saline nasal washes, and steroid nasal spray. Consider seeing a Cough specialist! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My son has fever for 6 days took him doctor and given biaxin (clarithromycin) for ear infection biaxin (clarithromycin) taking it for 4 days?
Child strep and bad mucous cough. Antibiotics for 3 days still has fever. Doc prescribed claritin nasal spray and inhaler for rhonchi, why claritin?
Good question: I am not aware of a nasal spray containing Claritin. Even then it would not have done that much for nasal congestion or the cough That the fever is still present after 3 days of antibiotic points more to a viral infection which often causes coughing and wheezing in children especially before age 3. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I was prescribed albuteral inhaler for asthma/upp resp. Started prednisone, tessalon perles and bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Wheezing badly in chest. What can I do?
Just finished Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 4 strep, now diagnosed w bronchitis/possible early pneumonia given a zpack, steroid pack. Worried bout takin new anti so soon?
Don't be: Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is a bit overkill for Strep. I't's almost always responsive to Zpack and regular 'cillins. Perhaps, if you got pneumonia soon after finishing Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate), your doctor was concerned about resistance to Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). Zpack and its cousins are recommended for community-acquired pneumonia, some of which are resistant to penicillin . Hope u get well soon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes..,.: If you were prescribed this antibiotic by your doctor for your cough, then you need to finish the prescription to reduce the risk of developing resistance. You were prescribed the antibiotic probably for acute bacterial bronchitis so you need to finish the antibiotic course as prescribed. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not really: It is not recommended that antibiotics be given for bronchitis in patients with normal immune systems who don't have chronic lung disease. Poeple given placebos get better just as fast as people given antibiotics. Which means that when it comes to treating bronchitis, antibiotics are placebos, and amoxicillin-clavulinic acid is a pretty harsh placebo. ...Read more
Will using mucinex (guaifenesin) dm help with bronchitis and asthma was prescribe prednisone 20mg ariythomicin 250mg for 7 days om gor 4 daytake pro air and advair?
Doubtful: The "active" ingredient in Mucinex (guaifenesin) is guaiafenisin. It has been hawked by drug huxters as an expectorant for for over 50 years-- something wonderful for loosening up phlegm so you can cough it up from your congested lungs. When the AMA Drug Evaluations was published in 1980, pharm companies were aghast, because it evaluated which drugs worked best. This one was "at least as good as a placebo". ...Read more
Doctor prescribed augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for 5 days for throat infection&the week after, prescribed amoxicillin.Am i now resistant? Is antibiotic resistance for life
Throat infection: An antibiotic should only be given if there was a strep test or culture done. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is Amoxicillin and clavulinic acid. Amoxicillin is usually sufficient for strep. Even in the few cases where strep is resistant to Amoxicillin (or augmentin), the resistance is usually short-lived and resolves within 3 months. So, you do not have lie-long resistance. ...Read more
Have pneumonia asthma bronchitis on prednisone 40mgx5 levoflaxcin500x7 is ok to take benedryl, cough supp and expectorant to manage severe coughing?
Probably OK but..: If your cough is caused by uncontrolled asthma, then you need to get the asthma under control instead of relying on cough medicine to relieve the symptoms. On the other hand, if your lung function is reasonably good and the cough is too bothersome, i see no harm in taking a cough suppressant for a few days. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about these issues. ...Read more
