As a doc, I am anti-smoking so I won't say go ahead and smoke. But smoking is not likely to interfere with that antibiotic--branded as augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). I hope you get better fast for reason you are taking the antibiotic, and that you consider quiting smoking.
Good luck. ...Read more

Prescribed amox/clav 875 2 times a day for 10 days. Could only handle the side effects for 7 days. Would that be good enough for sinus infection?
Sinus: By definition you have had an incomplete course of Abx. Best to be rechecked esp. If purulent discharge, Could use oxymetazoline spray every 4 hours for one week to decrease tissue swelling around sinus openings. Also saline nasal irrigations three times a day for one week. I am taking Amox-Clav 875-125 MG and the guy I am seeing was just diagnosed with strep throat. Can I catch strep from him?
Strep transmission: Strep is very easily passed from one person to the next - especially if they might be involved in kissing, sharing drinks/cigarettes etc. Funny thing is, you're on the right treatment for Strep - so as long as you're on it, you're actually protected because any germs passed from him would be 'killed' because you're on targeted antibiotics for that. Would use common sense though so u both recover. ...Read more

Can amox clav 875 irritate my gastritis to the point where I feel lightheaded, short of breath and bad cough?
Bad choice: When you take an antibiotic for a cold, you're taking a placebo, since a cold is caused by a virus, and antibiotics only treat bacteria. As placebos go, amox/clav (augmentin) is a pretty "big gun, " since it kills lots of bacteria (more than you'd need to kill even if you did have a bacterial infection), and is more likely to cause diarrhea and c. Difficile colitis. ...Read more
Maybe, maybe not: This is a good general treatment for both ear infections and uti's. However, there is probably 5-10% risk with any med for ear infection that the medication will not kill the germ. There are also germs that are resistant to the amox-clav. ...Read more

Hello, I have been taking sulfamethoxazole for a bad tooth infection but it not doing job so I'm switching to Amox-clav 875-125. Do you think this ant?
Tooth infection: Tooth infections require definitive treatment by a dentist. Any antibiotic or combination of antibiotics will not resolve the issue. Who put you on the Sulfa drug? My guess is that you are self administering your medications which if true is useless. If under the care of a dentist- discuss with him/her. If not go to one! ...Read more

My son is 12 yrs old and weighs 112 lbs. Is Amox/K Clav 875-125mg too high of a dose for a sinus/ear infection??
Pretty standard: Dosing for sinus and ear infections are much higher than those for simple urinary tract or chest infections. This is a normal dosing at this age.
