Infected in CMV prior to pregnancy. I realized there was no risk to the fetus. I want to perform amniocentesis. Is amniotic fluid used to do 16 20 wee?

Possible...: My advice would be to pose this question to your ob/gyn. As you will not be the one performing the actual procedure; best to ask the professionals. There is always a small risk of miscarriage after an amniocentesis; albeit minute...So best to discuss this with your obstetrician. ...Read more

My sister pregnant 14 weeks had a test for CMV IGg 1/360, IGm 1/160 . How to manage and what are risks on baby?

Old infection: Hello, this is Dr. Diana and I am happy to answer your question. The test shows that the CMV infection may be old which is a good sign. The new infection (that give just IgM titers) is detrimental for the baby. Nothing she could do now. Just go to prenatal appointments and wait for the baby. ...Read more

Unlikely: IgG level elevation only signifies exposure to CMV, your pregnancy would be at increased risk with an IgM spike which signifies a primary infection which a fetus has no immunity against. Your CMV IgG is protective to your babies and is a positive sign. I'm always thrilled to give folks good news ! ...Read more

Depends on situation: The most burdensome problems with CMV occur when a mom gets infected during pregnancy & the virus gets into the baby during the blood phase of mom's illness. If mom had it as a child, she likely has protective antibodies that will prevent this from occurring. If tests prior to pregnancy show you cmv+, then its unlikely your kid will get it.If cmv-, avoid exposures to little kids that could have it. ...Read more
