After taking combination therapy (5 mg amlodipine +10 mg lisinopril)my blood pressure fall to 85/55 is this ok or dangrous?

Not perfect: That level of drop in bp, from what I assume was a number that was abnormally high, is greater than it should be, and suggests that you are on more therapy than you need. Sometimes, with the first dose of a vasodilator, the drop is higher than it will be on subsequent doses, but it still suggests you are on more medicine than you need. Dehydration can also cause this type of response. ...Read more

BP meds: Both amlodipine and lisinopril are effective blood pressure medications. If the amlodipine is working well for you with no signficant side effects there wouldn't be much reason for switching medications. There are possible reasons to change otherwise but you provide no information. Ask your doctor your question..... ...Read more

Yes, but. . .: Lisinopril & amlodipine are used to lower blood pressure. In someone w/normal blood pressure, it can potentially lower blood pressure too much leading to weakness & lightheadedness to point of passing out. Best to monitor blood pressure closely. Go to nearest ER if it drops lower than usual. Have someone else take you b/c you don't want to pass out while driving. ...Read more

Why would amlodipine besylate be prescribed rather than lisinopril?

Depends: They work chemically differently to lower blood pressure, and partly because of that, they each can have different side effects - and in some cases, their specific side effects should be avoided in people with different diseases. Also, sometimes each drug works better in different disease states for reasons we don't know. So "better" often just takes an individual's health history into account. ...Read more

Gastritis: Either you might be developing gastritis from these pills or adverse effect from lisinopril. Abdominal pain was reported as a side effect from lisinopril. Some people rarely develop edema of the bowel wall, which could cause abdominal pain. If so you need immediate medical attention. Is it just as fine to take lisinopril/hctz versus taking lisinopril and amlodipine in a patient with a TIA with no recurrence in 9 months.

Choice of drugs: The answer to your question depends on how well controlled your blood pressure is on the lisinopril/hctz as opposed to it on amolodipine. The lower your blood pressure, without symptoms of hypotension, the less risk you have for strokes, heart attacks and renal failure in the future. Ask the physician (p) who wrote your prescriptions for advice, as your p knows your history better. Good luck. ...Read more

Which is the best treatment for hbp: exforge (amlodipine and valsartan) or diltiazem and lisinopril?

Everyone is diffrent: . The key is to get your patient to goal. If you can get the blood pressure to 130/80 or less with either program then it really doesn't matter. In my experience Exforge (amlodipine and valsartan) performs better but you have to taylor the meds to the pt. ...Read more

I started taking lisinopril march 12, 2012, I also take Norvasc (amlodipine) for blood pressure. I started seeing floaters, could the lisinopril be causing this?

Unlikely: If your blood pressure drops too much after taking both Lisinopril and norvasc, (amlodipine) it is possible to see 'floaters' as consequence. Check your blood pressure at the time when you see the 'floaters' and if it's not low, look for another cause - see an ophthalmologist. ...Read more

Can I take lisinopril, amlodipine, and furosemide for high creatinine and protein in urine, while I also have high uric acid levels?

Meds for proteinuria: Lisinopril (l) is an excellent drug for reducing proteinuria (p) and blood pressure control. With a high creatinine, you need to be under the care of a nephrologist (n) to make sure you can preserve your kidney function as long as possible. You also need to have a 24 hour urine collection to assess your kidney function and to see how much p you have. A n can also help with your uric acid problem. ...Read more
